My new mid range rifle

So I have pretty much turned my Rem 700 308 into a cast rifle. I needed a new 500-1200 yard jacketed rifle. Back in November I picked up a Savage 12FV from Cabela’s for a smoking deal. $219 on sale after rebate. It has the accutrigger and a 26” heavy barrel. I bought mine in 6.5 Creedmoor.
I finally was able to get all the other stuff gathered up that I needed to get this thing put together. SWFA 10X scope. Mil Quad reticle and Mil adjustments. Boyd’s pro varmint stock. EGW 20 MOA base, Vortex rings, and an inexpensive Blackhawk bipod.

I have 50 new Starline cases with small rifle primer pockets.
A new 8lb keg of H4350 and 5k CCI small rifle primers.

I’ll be shooting 140gr Hornady ELD match bullets. 1FD8438C-D433-42C2-BE53-408A4A1DE8BD.jpegEAFAD51C-710E-4F43-83C8-0C7E7E224603.jpeg

"Mid-range", he said. 500-1200 yards he said.:rofl::rofl:

Must be nice to live in Oregon!

Hopefully you pillar-bedded it and bought the longer action screws from Boyds....

If not, get me some measurements and I can turn you some pillars.

Me likey! 6.5 Cm will probably be my next rifle if I can keep myself from buying more Ruger single actions.

I did buy the screws from Boyd's. I did not bed it. I have the same rifle in .223 That I put in the same stock and it's a sub half moa shooter.
My brother has a 308 and a 65cm. Neither have been bedded and both are sub moa rifles as well.
I'll see how this one shoots before I do anything.

Nice rifle Waco. You got a whole lot for your money with that one. It would be impossible to find a savage 12 action for $219.

Cabela's has these things on sale several times a year. Just keep an eye open.
Everything said and done, it's more like a $900+ rifle...just don't tell Mrs. Waco....

Well, if it don't shoot, call me before you bed it and we'll do it proper. My xcb shot jaxkets into a hole you would swear was one after I did the pillar/skim two-step thing with Marine Tex. It's a long action and flimsy as heck.

Here's a great how-to on one-step bedding, and adding escutcheons later (not what I do, but still a great way).

Looks like someone is FINALLY making pillars for the Savages: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Savage-AXI...ar-Set-DIY-Stock-Pillar-Bedding-/172866092130

Glad to hear it's coming together.

I'm very curious about the stock. I realize you'll not be shooting it standing with no rest much, but wonder does that type of stock come up & mount as nice & fast as a classic sporter style?

Almost bought a stock like that for a black Friday axis.

the cheek piece makes it easier for the rifle to come up and fall in place.
there is definitely some shot gun influence there.

I can't wait to here a range report on the work up, with the 6.5 cm I think you will be more than pleased on accuracy and versatility. The savage actions along with a better than factory stock make a great platform. Plus the SWFA scope which in my opinion is the best for the money on the market you should have yourself a great shooter. Please report back on range results!

Getting ready to take this out and test some loads.
New Starline small primer pocket brass, CCI SRM primers, 140gr Hornady ELD's, and 41gr of H4350 for a MV of 2760fps.
I'll share the results later on today.

Looks good Waco. Should get even better after you get 100rds or so down the tube.
