My new Ruger..... coming soon!

After reading Ben’s thread on the 222 Rem, I really got inspired to find me one (again). My thought was to find something that fit between my 22 Mag and my 223 AI. Now I don’t shoot cast in my AI, but I thought the 222 would be a great place to start. After weeks of searching and browsing, everything was out of my price range.

Well today I came across a Ruger 77/22 K-Hornet with dies and 200 pieces of brass and three magazines. I’m meeting the seller tomorrow (Sunday) for the transaction. I’ll post pictures later.

My question now is where to start with the proper mold. I want something that can do between 1500 - 1900 fps. If I’m heading in the wrong direction, please straighten me out. Got plenty of casting experience, but none in this caliber.

I have two bullets that I cast and shoot in my .22 Hornets. The first is a NOE 37 gr. bullet that I use as my normal shoting bullet since it is the right shape that when it is loaded it will function through the magazines of my Anschutz's. The second one I like is another NOE mould that is slightly heavier 45 gr. and has a WFN style with a bigger metplat. I have a lyman 45 gr. mould also but these two bullets take care of my needs for bullets for my Hornets.

In the pic below L to R are some culls that I saved for examples:

NOE copy of the RCBS 55 gr. bullet

NOE 45 gr. WFN

NOE 37 gr.

I have two of the NOE moulds Intel6 has the 37 and 45 grain WFN but both mine are gas checked. Mostly I've used the 45 WFN in 218 bee. I also have a Ruger 77/22 varmint version but haven't tried the cast in them. You mention that the rifle is in the K version of the Hornet. The Ruger magazines follow the shape of the 22 Hornet cartridge fairly closely. I'm not sure they would load the straighter/blown out "K' without opening up the steel feed ramps. They may but it would be something I would check first. I really dont know.
