My powder trade…

Guy at work needed some pistol powder and couldn’t find any but had some rifle powders he didn’t feel he had a use for. I had an 8lb jug of Alliant Promo if he was interested in a trade. I traded the Promo for a pound each of IMR 8133, 4198, 8208, 4451 and Hodgdon Superformance. Not sure yet about the 8133 and Superformance but the other 3 have a place on the shelf. I think it was good trade for both of us…

I am almost done with an 8# of Promo. Paid $98 bucks for it many years ago. Shoulda bought a couple.

In the end of both parties are satisfied with the trade then it was a good trade.

we all shoulda bought more 12$ a pound powder.

the last Promo I seen in person was $200 a Jug.
but then again the last Rifle powder I seen was over 35$ a pound.

I guess I'm old and way out of the loop but the 4198 and Superformance are the only two I recognize and have only used the 4198 of the two . I also have 0 experience with the Promo .
I'm not really all that old (relatively speaking), but I'm way out of date. I only recognized 4198.

I'm still stuck on the idea that if you have Bullseye, Unique and 2400, You're set for pistol and a lot of (cast) rifle loads.

Promo is a cheap powder, or was, that is used by WEIGHT with red dot data. The key is going by weight as Promo has a different density that red dot.

I have been quite pleased with the 7# or so I have used so far.

the other difference is the flake shape.
just my guess [observation] but IMO they crank up the red dot mixture and shoot it out of the machine real fast and wet.
then you end up with bent and twisted flakes instead of nice flat ones.
