My Savage Axis

I have a very odd Axis in 308. I made 2 chamber casts and slugged the barrel 3 times and i still come up with the same measurements.
The Chamber Cast Just in front of the cartridge mouth the cast measures .310. The lead measures .176" long. This is where it gets weard. the lead ends with a dia. of .306. An all 3 slugs i made have a gruve dia. of .306 with no constrictions in the length of the barrel.
With a gruve dia. that small. Am i going to have problems making cast bullets shoot decent groups?

nope.
the savage barrels were cut that way on purpose.
your throat measurements look saami too.
I wouldn't try sizing to 311 though, try 309 or even 308.

BTW I ordered my swage die to make 307 diameter bullets for a reason.

It's a Savage butter barrel. Shoot the wee out of it and it will be .308" soon enough.

I have an old Stevens 425 High Power rifle, it's got a .306 bore too. Wonder if they inherited that from Stevens?

I was gonna mention the soft barrel thing, but it's gonna take 10-k cast loads to even notice a change.

Shoot about 200 rounds with some IMR4350 powder and jacketed bullets and the throat will be where you want it.
