The eyes ain’t what they used to be!

This is the first go with the new 1911. A 200 swc powder coated over 4.8 gr of Promo. Group was fired at 7 yards.

Man does this have a nice trigger.

I was pretty sure you would like it. Before I bought the DW Guardian, I looked at dozens of reviews; never saw a negative one. Mine also has a very nice trigger. Also, even at 28-1/2 oz., the Guardian recoil seems no greater than the original full size 1911.
If I didn't have so many other places that need my $$$ right now, I'd buy another.

You're going to have a ball with this new pistol. The DW 1911 is such a joy to shoot.

Gold Cups have been crap since the late 80s. ...............
Agreed.
The most pitiful 1911 pistol I ever owned was brand new and had come out of the Colt Custom Shop around 1990. It wasn't a Gold Cup but it cost as much and it was never reliable.
I was happy to see it go down the road.

My experience is just the opposite. I traded a Detonic's in on a new Gold Cup Commander in about 1992. The Detonic's would not fire a full six round magazine with any load I used, factory or handload, so I sent it in for repair. I paid shipping both ways and $50 for "service" and it never worked any better. The GCC has been perfect with 200 grain SWC either jacketed or cast with 5.0 grains of Bullseye.

Occasionally a decent Series 80 GCNM slipped through Hartford. I found one such example used lightly c. 2012 at the shop I infested in Ridgecrest. I suppose it was made on a Wednesday. Its Elliason sight was messed up, but I fired it as-is and it placed the WWB 230 HPs where the sights looked, so I left it alone. It feeds JHPs and castings wonderfully, and I found a replacement Elliason clone sight in the event the present sight elects to eject during cycling. I don't shoot it a lot--maybe 1K rounds since I bought it 10 years ago. It runs well, but it won't be the last 45 ACP I sell off. It is kind of surplus to my needs these days, but it doesn't take up much space in the safe.

My early 2000s GC isn’t a bad shooter but this DW has better sights and a far superior trigger along with just shooting better. The barrel lockup is far tighter on the DW.

I also have an SS GI model 1911 and it is pretty loose with a stock trigger. I would consider trading the 2 Colts for another DW.

Wish I knew more about 1911's. The only example I have is a SS Springfield Armory "Fully Loaded?" I think that's what they call it. Seems to have all the bells and whistles. That little oval hammer, (Commander style?), beaver tail grip safety, flat main spring, adjustable sights with some three dot inserts, an extended slide release. Feeds everything I've tried through it. Don't know its history but I'll wager I am at least the third owner. The younger man I got it from shot some pistol games like falling plates and stuff like that. He said it was always reliable and his word is gold with me. I kinda feel like every shooter should have a 1911 around, just because.
