Here just getting DEC to trap a nuisance bear or admit that beaver are flooding a road is a major feat of epic proportion. Bounties?!!! Perish the thought...

From personal experience, if you have ticks that carry Lymes or some other nasty bug, there is a once a month pill that KILLS them dead shortly after they latch on. Credilo? My Brittany had a few nasty run-ins with Lymes $$$ and this is the better course. By the time you can see their rear quarters twisting to one side, weakness in the hind legs, and "rabbit hopping", the spirochette load is already substantial.

Oh, there is a vaccine for Lymes, there is a booster after about 3 wks...

Just hope the conditions are not right for Blastomycosis, nasty spore based infection that starts in the lungs... Blasto needs a certain level of moisture and temperature... Nasty. Rare, but nasty. My little girl had Lymes and Blasto, so along with the weakness in the hind legs, there are skin "cysts" start off hard, then the center softens and eventually opens...

That isn't the worst, left unchecked, Blasto can destroy internal organs and eyes... My guess is Lymes depresses the immune system enough for Blasto to start, I've seen the combo three, maybe four times... Doxy does not take care of Blasto...

Springers are energetic. You will have to get quite a bit of hunting in before the dog gets over the lack of bird work. Maybe not. My Brittany has taken a year to make significant progress...

Elric,
Hoping to get in at least three trips this year to Sd. Looks like next week will be my first trip. Friend who lives where I hunt said the birds are there. Cash should get at least 15 days on the ground between now and the first week in January. Twenty days wouldn't hurt my feelings either!

Something that sort of mystifies me is that we can take our dogs to the vet and in 5 minutes we can get a determination on whether or not they have Lyme. Meanwhile, for a human it takes months of testing and there's no real "cure", at least according to my friend that has Lyme disease. Doesn't make sense.

I think we owe a lot of that to a judge being reluctant to judge a settlement of more than twice the bill for $800 dog much less a $50 mutt that at age 7 only had maybe 7 yr left vs a 40 yo that has 30 yr of wages left to earn .

cash “helping” me make snares today. He also thinks a push broom is his personal training device. Have to put him in his pet porter to sweep the floor! He’s a hoot to have around.
