Hey I like my Ruger anchor ! :)
I do agree however that a 250-265 gr bullet 1200+ stops being any fun at all to shoot about 1100 fps . That's a 45 Colts base and only "just into Ruger only loads" . I had a 1873 SAA clone for a brief time . It didn't feel right . It was one of those always wanted one because it's an icon happy place legendary whatever and it just wasn't for me .

Appearently I became a S&W guy at some point , but I'm not convinced of that either yet either .

RUGER "boat anchors".
Never thought of them that way. But when I put one of My .44Spl Cowboy Loads in a SRH 7 1/2", it's like shooting a .22 Rim fire. A bit less recoil then a M624 3"bbl, or a Colt SAA 5 1/2"bbl.

Fine on a table at the range. Boat achorish on your hip after a couple of hours.

I have a Uberti BP frame in 44-40 and a Taylor in 45 Colt. Both in 4 3/4" bbl (same as my 2 FT Rugers). Found the 44-40 easier to load for than everyone would like to lead you to believe (same with 32-20!). I love shooting it and the caliber. I WANT a 44-40 lever rifle (I have a BUNCH of levers!). The Taylor is awesome, as it has a great trigger. And love 45 Colt. Just got a Henry at great price in 45 Colt. If a 38-40 Uberti passed under my nose at a reasonable price, I would prob be a Huckleberry! Same for a 32-20. I have DA 32-20 revolvers - 1x Smith and 1x Colt. I just like the old/odd stuff. And especially SA Revolvers and lever guns.

PS: PSA - the Uberti's are pretty strong revolvers also. I inadvertently "proof tested" the 45 Colt... Mixed up old cans of Unique and BE. Had about a 25% over max load/old Ruger Only load equiv. Only fired 5 rds. DO NOT recommend it; I screwed up; but nothing came loose and no ill affect to the gun. They are strong indeed.

I spent my 20's Running up and down the Hills of South & Central CA. Chasing Coyotes, Rabbits and Boar. Carried a variety of Long Guns and holstered Blackhawks and SBH's. Once I started carrying on a separate Gunbelt I never noticed the weight at all.

Plus in My Cowboy Shooting Days, while I usually carried/shot a pair of 5 1/2" Colt SAA's in .44Spl.
On occasion I switched to a pair of 7 1/2" Ruger (old) Vaquero's in .45Colt.

I also wear Gunbelts with Full cartridge loops, I mean all the way from bullet to buckle. And yes I am that big around. I have full rigs for both. Fifty Rounds of pistol ammo, one .40-65 And 9rds of Rifle.
Above that a shotgun belt with 40rds of 12ga.

Never really felt the difference between the Heavy Ruger's and the lighter Colt's. From 8am in the morning 'til 2-3 in the afternoon.

And to get back on the thread's subject; I shot a .44-40 Rifle with the Colt .44's, sometimes even switching to a Pair of Italian 7 1/2" .44Spl/.44WCF.
