yep beeswax and Vaseline if your feeling froggy throw some [like 3-5%] alox, ATF, or 2 stroke oil in the mix.

if your using the beeswax, Crisco and lanolin lube put a few drops of olive oil in the mix to keep it soft over time.
it works just fine for smokeless revolver and low vel rifle loads too.
just use a LOT less of it in those applications, or add more wax if you have a big lube groove.

I'll try adding some olive oil next time. I normally store the big black powder bullets in those plastic boxes meant for cartridges, but if they sit out they do dry out I have noticed.

Welcome from Western Washington.

I have had good results in pistol and low node rifle loads with 45/45/10 tumble lube.
By volume:
45 parts Johnson’s paste wax (Slowly heated in a double boiler for twenty minutes)
45 parts Lee Alox or White Label Xlox
10 parts deodorized mineral spirits or paint thinner or naphtha or coleman fuel

A similar type of lube is Ben’s liquid lube, or the Alternative Ben’s liquid lube that’s made with Lundmark floor wax. I think that’s been formally named Ben’s #2. I haven’t tried these, but I hear a lot of good stuff about both of these recipes.

Or just buy a jug of the White Label premixed 45/45/10 tumble lube.

For pan or dip lubing I have been using 50/50 beeswax and Xlox. It has worked just fine in our temperate PNW climate.

Be on the look out for a toaster oven. Your gonna need it when you buy that first pound of PC powder. I didn’t think I was gonna, until I did!

I tried tumble lubing a few years back and did not care for it, didnt seem to work for me. I can definitely see myself trying PC sometime though.

Darrs lube
1# Vaseline
1# parrafin
2 tblsp STP oil treatment
Warm until clear stir let cool .
I found it.to be to thin in my former desert home and made it at 14 oz , 18 oz and 3 tblsp .

Don't use it near anything that might be BP like .
I use it stand alone upto 2600 fps in a 24" 222 and in 45 Colts , S&W and ACP .

Welcome from Arkansas. I use Lar's Carnuba Red, exclusively. I like it so much, I have it in both my lube sizers.

Welcome from Nebraska. I've used vaseline/beeswax and adjusted the amount of wax for summer and winter. I pan lube and size in an unheated shop. Now use carnauba red. It's a bugger in the cold shop in the winter.

Welcome Jordan. I hesitate to make a recommendation on lube but I am having such good luck lubing with Ben's Red, and then very lightly tumbling with Ben's Liquid Lube, (10 drops per 50 bullets), That I am confident in saying so. My center fire bores act just like .22 rimfires. Zero leading, none, I can't remember even seeing flecks of lead.
Oh, and my latest efforts are at 440 yards with cast bullets in .308 and .30-06, and I am extremely pleased.

Brad is graciously sending me some carnauba red, and I'm buying one of his lubrisizers to try it in so I can keep the saeco set up for blackpowder. I plan to try it against the Ben's red to see which does better in storage in the heat. I'm sure they will both perform well in revolvers but I'm not sure how the carnauba will do in the winter, being that it is so stiff.

Carnuba red did fine for me in winter IF the caliber was large and the bullet heavier. My 32-20 was very bad about cold bore fliers, pretty much always high. My 30-30 didn’t seem to have much trouble and the 45-70 never noticed it at all.
Good thing is that the cold bore fliers were consistent and needed 3-5 quick shots to go away. For hunting just sight in slowly so the bore is always cold.

I have a stick of Carnauba Red you can have for postage.
I am also in Oregon. If we are close enough we could meet and I can hand it to you.

I'm in Albany, if you're near me or I end up near you I can grab it. If it ends up working well vs bens red I will probably just order a large amount at once.

I let LSS make my lubes for me. Lyman 450 has BW/Alox 50/50 (standard pistol/revolver), the 4500 has Carnauba Red (magnum revolver and rifles).

Heading out tomorrow to return some allegedly-toxic heavy metal to Mother Earth. 10mm and 45 AR, just because.

Pheonix Arms did/does an AR 10 . The cartridge is basically a 284 Win necked up and run through a 45-70 sizer . 45-70 strong lever day applies .

Knowing Allen I bet he has had one of the blow-back Colt uppers with their custom magazines since before ARs were "cool". Department-issue PCC influence? Something about power company being a little too sluggish blacking out a few blocks of street lamps?
