New toy!

February means bonus time at my shop. I bought the little lady some nice things for Valentines day and she said "you should go get yourself something nice"

Well, I don't have to tell you guys twice that means green light for new rifle purchase!

I hit my local Cabela's and there it was on the rack. Brand new Ruger American Ranch in 300BLK
with Nikon 2x7 with ballistic plex scope and steel Warne rings.

I snagged the last set of Hornady dies, a bag of brass I've never heard of? Jagemann? Team never quit.

Looks nice. Anyhow, this is how I'm going to spend my day. working up new loads, jacketed for now, for my new toy. Cast is sure to follow.

I guess I haven't read too many of the BO posts. What is everybody's favorite cast bullet for this round?
No can yet. So subsonic loads don't matter. I thought I read that the 155 Lee Harris design was a popular one?

Looks like a pound of pouder will go a long way!

Here are a few pics.

I used the MP 30 sil with good results. The 155 Lee did pretty well too.
H110 and 1680 are the powders I used.

Currently I'm playing with the NOE 230 PB with subsonic loads using 4227.

I find it a pretty agreeable little cartridge so far.

Since you don't have a gas system to keep happy the powder options are huge.

I have a few pounds of 4227 and 5 or 6 of H110

Guess I'll start there. None of my reloading manuals have data for this round.....guess it's time for a new one!

Here is a good start point.

That coupled with common sense will get you a really good start.

Is that brass reformed 223? I got a bag of reformed stuff at Cabelas and it isn't bad.

I'm using Rem 7 1/2 exclusively right now. I like them as the cup is pretty puncture resistant, a good thing in an AR. I pierced a few Win SR primers when I was shooting HP competition and won't use them in an AR anymore.
I think you can use any SR primer as bolt guns don't generally suffer pierced primers.

So the mag primer isn't needed? I have 2K of them on hand, but have far more standard primers at my disposal.

Weird looking thing stuck in the case. Must be the light.

You're going to need a higher-capacity magazine for that rifle....

Nice scope, too, lovin' the crankable turrets. Does it have the ballistic dot reticle thing for subs and supers both?
