I can't say what the results will be in your 300 BLK but when I changed from a small rifle primer to CCI 550, a small pistol mag primer in my FA 357 long range groups were cut in half. That was with H-110 and heavy for caliber cast bullet.

I would clean the bolt really well. I would sprays lots of brake cleaner thru the bolt to make sure the spring into packed with hardened grease.
I just can't see the rifle setting off primers. Something might just be amiss.

Yeah, something's not right at all. My guess is firing pin binding up (manufacturing debris in the bolt body, burr on pin, bolt one thread short of fully screwed together, defective firing pin) or the rifle is WAY out of spec on headspace.

I think I mentioned it on this thread or somewhere here that one of our mechanics just got a 700 with the 16" threaded bull-barrel and the barrel and receiver were terribly out of whack at the recoil lug, like the shoulder was off, receiver face not square, or the tenon got bent somehow. That makes me suspect the operation that puts the barrel and action together on these is pretty sloppy and a headspace investigation might be in order.

His rifle is a Ruger. I can't imagine a Ruger rifle with a spring so weak it won't light a magnum primer. Something is wrong.
Bolts on most a Ruger rifles can be reasonably easily taken down. Might be a good idea? Beats pulling 90 bullets.....

yeah I went and popped off a couple of the primers he is using in both my ruger and AAC.
and give him a report over there.

the sparks from the magnum primer in that 16" barrel were spectacular even in the daylight.
the first time I popped one off I thought I was gonna light the carpet on fire.
I can see why they will fling a pellet down a 223's barrel like they do.
they were also the ones I shot the glue stick through the garage door when I tried a grain of B-eye on top of them in the 30 carbine revolver.

I hate to admit it but there's a permanent black spot on the garage floor from some of my brisance experiments. First time I shot a primer in a revolver I thought it wouldn't be loud. My ears rang for three days, and I did that one outside!

Watched a video on disassembling the bolt on that Ruger. Not sure if I feel comfortable tackling that one.
I did prime four cases with CCI 400 primers and they all went off without a hitch. I think I'll load up a small amount with these primers and see how it goes.
Thanks for all the advice.
Walter.
