No More Johnson's Paste Wax

Well, not so sure my homemade lube is all that good. I cleaned the bore yesterday and found some lead. Only one sliver, but lots of tiny flecks. Now those small bullets could have been the contributors to this. I can see the lands shearing lead off the bullet since they only had 0.0005 engagement. Cleaned it of any lead and gave it a quick lap with JB Bore Paste for good measure.

I will keep the lube and when I get this rifle sorted out, I'll try it again to see how it does.

Tell me it ain't so! No telling how many cans of Johnson's I've bought out of my pocket in the Army. Not a better shine anywhere. Mix with Cordovan Kivi paste polish for a deep shine. Can't see anything replacing it. A Command Sergeant Major has to keep his Conference Room floor looking like a mirror./beagle

TREASURES!

Isn't it cool being so easily (and cheaply) satisfied? I love what we do.

I ask every time I go into a "new" hardware store if they have any paste wax. Last time, it was an ACE, not too long ago.

"I'll look it up," says the eager clerk.

I let him and watched his face.

The expression when he got his search results was priceless and he looked over his glasses at me and started laughing.

"SURE! I can get you some paste wax! Got two hundred forty eight bucks?!"

I have a pound of pure Carnuba wax, wonder if I mix it with mineral spirits, it could be used to make BLL, as a replacement for the Johnson's wax

you could just as easily mix 5% of it into some paraffin and cut it down with a solvent till it's as soft and gooey as the JPW was.
if you had some stoddard solvent on hand you could 100% match the factory.
