NOE 314316, gas check, 4 cavity

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
If it shoots anywhere near as well as my Lyman 316, you are going to LOVE it!

Nice!
I really like 4-cavity moulds. I think it is a good compromise between productivity and consistency.
I bet you’ll love it.
I do wonder if all those GC-shanks will make it into the distant future, or if they have an upcoming encounter with Ben’s drill press :)

Right now, I can't see me removing any of the g/c shanks in this mould.

This 4 cavity NOE mould will rain 316's.
Nice and round, they mike .3135"
My own aluminum .014" gas checks are on tight on the ones
that I've lubed and sized this morning.
A very enjoyable mould ! !

I have that same mould in the RG version. Keeps my .32/20 and 32 mag happy. My Marlin 1894cl likes the Dimple points best, and with a little tin drops at .314.
Ben,
That No 1 is pure gun porn, pretty rifle.

I wouldn't get rid of the GC. I know it's a pain and an expense, but Lord! That design is just magnificent as it is. Really works well in everything from 32 S+W (yeah, the bullet is longer than the case!) to 308, 30-30, etc. Makes the 32-20 in a rifle into a coyote killer out to at least 125-150 yds if you know your rifle. Just can't say enough good about!

Bret4207 ,

I agree with you.
I plan to leave the mould " as is ".

Recently, I removed both gas check shanks on this 125 gr. 311465 double cavity Loverin mould. It will serve well as a light weight .30 cal. short range bullet in my 30-30's.

No need to modify the 4 cav. 316' mould.

Don't let ANYONE tell you that #311316 is inaccurate. If it casts big enough to fit the throat and grooves, it will shoot. It stays accurate in my Marlin to 1800 FPS and to 1500 FPS in my 30 Carbine BH.

GORGEOUS!!! I think the Stevens 44 1/2 is the best looking SS of all.

The bore is less than stellar as you can imagine from a 100 plus year old rifle in a black powder cartridge. If I use alox on the bullets and keep velocity down I don't get any leading. that's why I want to try short gas check bullets and see if I can get a flatter shooting load.
