NOE Saeco 315 copy

Ben’s single shot .30-06 thread got me going on loading some cast for my Bergara ‘06.
I had some PC 315’s laying around but the top nose section measures .3054”
As cast they measure .3004”
Looks like I’ll gas check and put lube in the bottom two groves. Here is the rifle. It has a Leupold VX3i 4.5x14 optic. EEBBE836-AD31-4518-A7DB-7BABABAD0E41.jpegEEBBE836-AD31-4518-A7DB-7BABABAD0E41.jpeg

Beautiful rifle, Waco!
I also have the NOE #315- clone, a 4-cav mould with 2PB/2GC. That bullet has shot very well for me. It has also worked well with PC in 30-06. Keep us posted on your results, and good luck!

Those numbers are " normal " for a # 315 mould.
The front nose dia. on my # 315 SAECO's may not be tight and engraving heavily , but it doesn't rattle in the end of most .30 cal. barrels either.
I have a brass " 315 Clone " Accurate mould , it was ordered specifically to drop with a front nose at .302" with a rear band of .312". A super accurate plain base .30 cal. bullet.
The #315 doesn't look like other .30 cal. cast bullets.
The " numbers " you get off of a cast # 315 bullet won't look like other .30 cal. cast bullets.
The groups you'll shoot with the # 315 will not look like other .30 cal. cast bullet groups either.

It is a different animal.

That's the mold I use for my old JC Higgins 51-L 308 with it's oversized throat. I seat it long enough that it engraves on the rifling and it works great.

Beautiful rifle!! One of my buddies has one in .308 which he adores...

In .30-06 in my Rem 700, i've had great luck with a RCBS 30-180-fn. size to .311, and with 50/50 molybee. it just engraves, and does a pretty good job.

Enjoy!!!!!

Are any of you guys using a star sizer with the 315 clones and if so, are you nose first or base first. I have the NOE cast and getting ready to size for the savage 340.

Gents.... school me on the #315. Reading up on it, its a tapered design, correct? What other peculiarities does it have?

Ben.... How different are we talking about? re: Different Animal.... you've got my attention.

Thanks Ben, I was looking for that last night but rhe CBA no longer has Eagan's catalog on the forum. Should have known Dan would have it up on his forum.

One important difference between most of the MX3 Eagan variants and copies is tjat Eagan's cherries had tapered bands. Most of the clone are designed with stepped, parallel diameters.

Interesting detail. I wonder if it makes much of a difference once The Big Light From Behind hits the base and kicks the malleable alloy with 25K+ PSI. I "get" how a tapered form would lend itself to better alignment & engagement of the throat and leade pre-firing. I just ponder and wonder how well these design tweaks survive in the VERY HARSH environment of a rifle or handgun chamber/throat/barrel under considerable pressure and acceleration.
