Nose size die on the way.

You get all the tools needed with the NOE push through die body kit, except the appropriate for cal. push rod that fits in the shell holder. Identical to the Lee push rod. and the appropriate nose punch for ejecting the bullet from the nose sizing die body. Can use Lyman nose punches. And what ever size bushings that are needed. $. 9.75 ea.

When nose sizing, a hand ram nose rod, included in the kit, to which is attached the appropriate nose punch and inserted into the top of the die body is used to eject the casting.

When base sizing, it works just like the Lee. And can use the Lee plastic reservoir which is attached to the top of the die body to catch the sized castings

I have been using the above kit for a couple of years now and like it.

Would you happen to have a video?
:rofl::rofl::rofl:

You must not know Fiver very well.... We're lucky he came up with a photo, and I doubt it's his because the last Lee press he had got booted halfway to Canada. I like the press fixture, though it would be a heck of a lot easier just to have a mould made that cast the right size and shape to begin with.

she would have just chewed the camera up if I handed it to her.
the Chesapeake part is really starting to show through.

it's super simple to make.
you just need a hole in the center of the bottom bar that fits over your press ram.
then you saw a hole into the center hole on an angle.
drill through that angle and tap the bottom side [below the sawed part] so you can tighten the bar down around the ram.
the rest is just 2 holes in the top and bottom bar for the all thread rod.
then a hole in the center of the top bar, so when you raise the press handle up the rod/ bolt/whatever/ you screw through the top bar comes down in the die and presses the bullet out.

oh,,, yeah, that's not mine.
mine is green.
well I do have one on a red press too, but it is a Hornady.

but I wouldn't hesitate to buy one of those LEE classic cast presses, they are actually good solid presses.

A new mold? Where is the fun in that? Half the fun is tinkering to make something work that you got on sale or a bargain from a friend. Nothing like crossing your toes while you pull trigger and the stars align and all that hard work pays off. Thats when you frame that target and move to the next project.

Not very happy so far. Aperently sizing a .302” nose to .300” all at once is too much to ask of these NOE dies. Maybe I’m missing something. Set the die up per instructions, lubed bullet with Hornady Unique case lube and proceeded to run the nose of the bullet into the die. Bullets are 13bhn. This took considerable force to do. Using the ram/punch with top punch installed I tried to tap out the bullet from the die. Gouged the nose bushing, buggered up the threaded hole for the set screw on the die body. And pretty much ruined the aluminum top punch. Not a good evening. 32A29817-CD26-46FA-82AA-CEFCEF564A19.jpeg2D0ED771-0C00-4804-85B2-7DAEC11324D0.jpeg73F277AB-8A3E-460C-A5AF-81EC74ED26A4.jpeg

Well. Looks like part of that was my fault. The bushing was not seated flush. SUPER tight fit. It still required a lot of force to run the bullet into the die. Maybe I should only try to size .001' at a time?

.001 at a time makes sense? I would use some lanolin as a lube if you have any. Anhydrous please.
Is it just me or did the shape of the nose ahead of the sized portion change in shape a little?

Dang Walter, what did ya do in your spare time?

Maybe .001" would help. Hard to tell from the pics because a close up picture really magnifies everything but it sure looks like more than .002"

Tells me that I would want to nose size right after casting. Don't let the bullet harden any more and certainly don't heat treat before the nose sizing.

Rick. The nose was a dead on .302" all the way around.
Brad. That was my first thought. Cast then nose size the same day.

Did you measure the sized area to see if it gives an honest .300?

13 isn't all that hard, I routinely size 12 BHN air cooled all the time, not noses but still. Hornady Unique is what I is use for sizing bullets that aren't getting lubed, works great. But Brad is right, all sizing should be done soon after casting most especially if water dropped and always before heat treating.
