Understand completly....
I am a mathematician. ...everyone needed me for 15 yrs...now we have computers...
Then I did drafting...still love the feel of the pen and all my old equipment....now I use a cad program...no soul there ...but the speed is awesome and capibillities endless...it combines chores and does 3d at the same time you are doing floor layouts....

So my philosophy is ..."embrace the new...but never loose touch with the old"

CNC may not have soul but (there's always a Dang But huh?) I don't think I would want the bill if you needed several thousand of something and it had to be done "with soul", one step at a time, one piece at a time, a few done a day, day after day.

Soul is nice but it also tends to be spendy

CNC can make parts easily but the design and finishing touches make it more than just an assembly of parts.

Uhhh,I still use a drafting table. And could wax on endlessly about how my $$$ friends with their latest greatest cad systems ,can't keep up.

Putting a pencil to paper is an enabler,it forces you to know what you are doing.

Quicksilver, one of my PHD sons (got two),is a physics/math smarty. His identical twin is a chemistry doctorate.Me,never made it through HS...
,chose a library card, and followed my father, and his, footsteps. All good,we each need to find our own way.
