I was offered this carbine today at the LGS. Oddball caliber, but some dote on it.

If anyone is interested, let me know, I'll put you in touch with them. Action was tight, trigger
very light, target globe type front sight, octagon bbl, narrow comb original stock, crescent steel
butt plate. Pretty much all patina.
Just a guess from the style, early 1900s, maybe even before the turn of the century.

Needs to find the right person, and I was thinking that it may be a good cast bullet shooter.
Came from an estate.

How much was the LGS asking for it? I wonder what caliber is was originally. Re-barreled? Not so odd ball a caliber, quite viable in a rifle, revolvers also but they got a bad and undeserved rap in the wheel guns.

I wasn't intersted, so did not ask a price. I assume rebarreled, since nothing that I can quickly
think of was in .357 groove diam.

If you are interested PM me and I will give you their phone number. I f you are actually interested,
I can go and take more time inspecting bore an chamber, too. Didn't really look at the.....I know,
dumb, but I wasn;'t going to buy it.

I don't want to buy it, just being nosey because of the caliber on that frame. It is a viable cartridge, if anyone is interested in the rifle here is an article by Glen on the Maxi in pdf. Quite an interesting read including loads & cast data.

that would make a handy walk around rifle with a lot of versatility.
you could get it down to 90gr bullets at 8-900 fps, and up to 250's at about 1600 fps without much effort.

I've got a little '85 low wall. It's in pretty rough shape cosmetically. Have never even checked the chambering. Pretty sure it's 25-20.

I don't know a lot about the strength of a rifle of this age and design.
The Max is a pretty potent round ! !

The 357 max loaded using TC load data is pushing 60,000 psi

Standard loadings used in revolver load data is 40,000 psi
