Opening weekend

Well the RCBS 35 cal. 200 gr. bullet did its job AGAIN with 5ers load in my GS's 35 Rem. 100 yards bang flop. On Sunday he passed on a second deer but passed because it wasn't a good clear shot. He apologized for not harvesting the second one also. I told him that it means more to me that he didn't take the shot even though he could.
My daughter an I sat all Saturday seeing nothing but tree rats. Sunday was the same nothing but tree rats till about an hour till dark, She was looking out her north facing window. All of a sudden she grabbed her rifle and got ready to shoot. As soon as she say the deer in the scope she breathed OH MY GOD. And never said another word. I could see she was following the deer in the scope. I whispered to her just to follow the deer until there was an opening.
I could finally see the deer, and she was rite. It was a very large buck. It never did stop to give her a good clean shot. It eventually just walked out of sight.
After she calmed down. She turned to me and said that she was really sorry that she had not taken the shot. I reassured her that i would rather not take a shot than cripple one.

On some forum, (6.5 grendel, I think) a father reported a hunt from a blind with his 6 year old. The youngster took one doe but passed on a couple others because they were "no no shots". I found the story heart warming. Evidently, they were clear shots, but the angles were wrong. The father had schooled the boy on anatomy.

Rockydoc I will look in my records and get back to you. I do remember that that is the only load i had to try and it was a keeper.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Good on her! I would rather people pass on those iffy shots 100 times instead of taking that "Hail Mary" and wounding an animal. I know the excitement really gets to some folks. I've never suffered from buck fever but I did once take a shot at a duck I shouldn't have and I still feel ashamed of myself for doing that. I think her self control is worthy of a great deal of praise!!!

Good morning and Congratulations to your daughter !
That is a "always remembered moment" when that big-un comes in sight. Sure gets the old pumper a thumping some harder.
There is nothing wrong with passing a tough shot unless your starving.
