Oregon desert gemstones

image.jpg image.jpg Earlier this spring the wife and I travel down to the south eastern part of Oregon just outside a small town called Plush.

The Oregon Sunstone is our state gemstone. The wife and I have recently taking up rock hounding as a hobby.

We found quite a few small stones, most were just chips but a few were decent sized.

A small handful of them were big enough with good enough clarity to be sent off to get faceted. We droped these stones off with the Rock and gem shop about 3 1/2 months ago and I just got them back the other day. They turned out a lot nicer than I had hoped. They were sent off to Thailand to be cut.
Here are some before and after pictures. Thanks for looking. Walter.image.jpg

Quite impressive and just think, they were just laying out in the desert.

If you don't mind my asking, what does it cost to have them cut & polished like that?

Not at all. He charged me $7 per finished carat. Most all the pale yellow stones are pretty common. They are worth $8-9 a carat retail.
The red one is more rare. $75-85 a carat. That stone is worth about $365-375.
I cost me $176 for them all. Roughly 25.5 carats if I remember.
One gram=five carats.
