Over size bullet gas checks .

Under the Arisaka adventures .
I have an NOE 270-140 that casts a regular dependable .272 . Hornady 6.5 gas checks fit tight and stay put , but they barely touch in the .272 die ,they may not even touch all the way around .

I have 270 cal checks in both copper and aluminum .

I wonder if I wouldn't be better off with the 270 aluminum checks . Through the .272 die they seem tight enough in test examples .

I can't be in wholly uncharted territory , this has to be akin to 30 cal checks on a .318 for a fat 303 or 7.7 .

So what do think ?

I haven’t tried, but it sounds like it is worth a try. Crimping on the over-size GC in a nose-first sizer might cause problems with skirting. I would try crimping on the over-size GC base-first.

Fortunately the cartridge in question looks to be a fill it up to the neck with 4831 and put any weight bullet in the neck you have handy type and 4350 looks like you only need to back off of that about 1 gr for a 160 vs a 120 or 140 . They only make about 42-48kpsi max

It just seems like there's so much band dia left over ....... Most of the gas check only allow for a bullet to be sized .003 over nominal dia . In this case I'm looking at just under sized for the next caliber . By designation it's .25 mm over . I'm just glad I bought a mould that was too big for a barrel burner that happens to fit this one .
