Redbuds in bloom,ever so slight drizzle and overcast.

Got my tractor parts painted,going to the river.

Would love to take the tackdriver CDL '06 but,dang walnut stock.So,it's gonna be the 7-08 stainless SPS. Shoot for the base of the neck.Should be a 50 yd shot..... well,that's the "plan" haha.

There was a big Tom in the yard yesterday but that ain't sporting?

OK,watching paint dry..... one quick story;

Back when the middle boys were driving the 5'0 mustang gt.... I'm under the hood changing out plugs in the race shed. Y'all know the drill,little cussin,each plug takes different extensions/swivels/sockets that's putting the Snap-On man's kids through college?

I hear this cluck,cluck?I'm like,WTF?

I swear,pulled my head out from under the hood and there's FIVE Turkey's standing mere feet from me. They're all in a line,perfect formation. I sloooooowly put my head back under the hood.Then started mouth clucking.They stood there for 10 minutes or so,then meandered off.

What a beautiful time of year!

Turkey huntin with a rifle? Wheres the fun in that? Up close and personal. Use your bow or a shotgun.

Yeah,yeah... done the bow thing S Mac. It "is" what spring season represents.We've taken it a little too serious in the past.Which is why this season I felt especially bad....

A 9" CI skillet frying fresh caught down on river bank with,trad bows setup for spring gobblers is hard to put into words?

Maybe I should add, killing turkeys where I live isn't legal so maybe I should hold my tongue when I haven't tried it.:headscratch:

OK,this is for Ian;

Ghog @75 yds,"looking away" left.Put a VERY relaxed shot into upper thorax. The 7 sailed through and impacted the river 35 yds distant ...... at about 10* "up".

Blew a 1" exit hole on a 12 shot.

He was dead and didn't know it,jacked #2 in and hit neck, dead nuts,way faster than this can be typed!

Yup, big fan of the 7mm-08, all I've ever shot through one was cast bullets. Congrats on getting the little buggar.

the 25-20 with a 60-70gr flat point cast bullet is about perfect for putting 2 holes in a turkey and not letting them wander off.
right at the wing butt [or base of the neck if they are facing away] just snaps the back bone without tearing up any meat.
not the easiest shot with your deer rifle when the seasons overlap.

I've got two Rem 700's in 7-08. For some strange reason they have always been on the back burner of the project list and never have done much with either. Should remedy that I think.

You should, Rick, they're great fun and don't kick terribly if you don't load them hot. I believe you have some appropriate 7mm moulds, don't you? You may find the neck clearance to be a little "overboard", but mild loads with a bore-riding bullet should be easy enough to get shooting well. If you want to push things a little, anneal the shoulders of some .270 Winchester brass and re-form to 7mm-08, then cut to length and turn the thick necks for minimal chamber clearance.

This 7-08 has never seen a JB.

What made me think of Ian;I've never actually seen a bullet on its trajectory past the target.There was water behind the hog, the 4X scope is paralax set @75yds,combine with low recoil,and solid very relaxed position. The bullet path was in full view.It tumbled on exit but,kept straight on it's redirected path. There's a huge hill on the other side of river some 75yds so the CB was buried in the far bank.

Was thinking of Ian's bullet trap #1,and on a slightly lessor degree,how internal ballistics can be compared.Deformation during the launch process.Just never seen it so graphically before.

There are a couple of hog and coyote thermal-image kill shot collage videos on utoob where in a few places you can see the white-hot bullets exiting and doing all sorts of weird stuff, I found it pretty interesting because this is the sort of thing you never see normally. You get two holes and in the back of your mind always wonder where that bullet could have ended up. One that comes to mind is a 'yote getting a .243 through the shoulders and the bullet pops out like someone just threw it up at about 20-30° angle and 10:00, making a big, lazy, tumbling arc off into the grass, just like your GH shot.

bullets do weird things after hitting dirt too.
I usually pick most of my range scrap up from behind the 50yd berm on the rifle range.
anything that doesn't flip up and over the top is too badly damaged for me to get it back.
the pistol berms are more vertical, but even there the projectile hits and travels up the berm 8-9"s under the dirt.

Big ole Tom down in the woods,looking for love?Talkin "trash".Hopefully can drag arse outta bed in the a.m.,will decide on what CB rig to take,5 minutes before heading to the river.The CDL '06 needs to get out,so that's the plan right now?

Edit.Like a little kid with a starter recurve...doh. Took a cpl minutes to find the 40 y.o. Lynch's Foolproof box call.Is there anything better than teasing a love struck Tom?

I've never been Elk hunting but,expect it very similar to spring turkey season?Half the fun is talkin trash with them?I've been within feet of turkeys......how close have any of y'all been to a bull Elk?
