Ben, I have followed your lead on just about every 2 cavity AL, mouId I have , they didn't come out as clean as that iron one, but I have yet to be disapointed with the way anyone of them shoot, as a mater of fact I got throughly bored with the consistant accuracy I got from my Winchester 54 in .30-30 using the PB 315 and Universal that I stopped using it and went on to something more chalanging, I fear the 299 PB in my .308 may suffer the same fate , THANK YOU MY FRIEND, for opening up a whole new world in cast bullet shooting. Dan BTW nice work and great shooting
When you say followed Ben's lead, are you talking PC bullets in your loadings?

I've never powder coated and at age 71, there is a real good chance that won't be changing.
I've got a couple of years on Ben, with everything else going on and trying to keep up with my reloading as it is,it would probably take me months just to decide on a color, besides that I've gotten an e-mail from my nephew who informed me that he's gone down that rabbit hole,so I guess I'll just sit back and let a youngster teach me for a change. on of the spiffs of getting older is that you come across some forgotten treasures, the other day I was looking through my NOE moulds and came upon a .311 180 gr. FN 2cavity mould one FB, the other GC'D, I don't ever remember ordering it, nor do I have any records of casting and shooting it,o-o-o-oH Boy, something new to play with!

Nice find, Quicksylver! Looks like a fine bullet!

If you have a casting, loading and lubing regimen that suits your preferred kind of shooting, and meets all your requirements, what would be the point of changing anything?

Powder coating is a very useful tool for increasing the bullet’s tolerance to heavier loads.
PC has some nice characteristics regarding temperature insensitivity, and no need for fouling shot.
It is very relevant to a beginner, since the equipment needed is much cheaper than lube-sizers and so forth.

But;
-If you already have the necessary gear
-Don’t mind perhaps having to shoot a fouling shot or two before grouping
-Have gone through a 30+ years learing curve on how to make lubed bullets shoot
- Have no need for powerful loads

...then converting to PC seems a bit pointless. You’ll find yourself at the beginning of a new learing curve, which can be frustrating.

It can also be exciting and busy work, overcoming obstacles, is some folks life's work...

Its not alchemy and it has benefits.

That was many yrs ago (when I could shoot good) near Mena, sleet storm the night before. Laying on parking area in jeans and parka, not much fun. Next day warmed up and younger GK tried busting clays, could barely get the barrel of the 870 12ga. up but did a happy dance after he did bust one. Fun days but now they're close to grown up.
Edit: posted in another thred the target of 170gr PB @ 50, full power load (1800 fps?) in the CVA BO. Pretty decent if I can figure out how to handle the recoil. Scope view goes up and left, think I'm dropping my shoulder on the shot. Got powder now so need to get the AR10 out and dust it off.

Nice shooting. Actually just waiting for some one to show me some not uncommon-sub 1/2" MOA targets out of ANYTHING, using powder coated bullets , they have come a long way and have a pretty good following , I won't hesitate to jumb in the rabbit hole, when I see some serious accuracy, hand guns on the other hand,I can see the novelty and plain out fun trying them

from a marlin 30/30, same bullet/load 2x BLL vs Smokes red PC. Can't claim a big difference but definitely not worse. This was a funny alloy, 1,1,1% Zn/Cu/Sb.
