Powder funnels - Satern, Area 419, Lyman Precision Funnels, what?

I have a set of Saterns (ow, ow, ow) for the cartridges on my bench. From 22 up to 457, I pretty much got em. Two "dings", it seems that you need the next smaller size for a good fit (use a 22 for 24) and a complete set of individual funnels takes up space. But they do quite nice...

SATERN Powder Funnels
.17, .20, 6mm, .257, 6.5mm, 7mm, .30, .32 (.313 or .321?), 8mm, .338, 9mm, .38, .375, .40, .416, .44, .45, .50

My apologies if I mis-ordered sizes.

I see the Lyman "Brass-Smith Precision Funnel Set" funnel and insert set
but what seems to be a pattern, Lyman has 22, 24, 25/6.5, 270/7mm, 30 and 338. No 32/8mm, 9mm/358, no 41, no 45.

The Area 419 set looks spiffy, but they seem to be focussed on the AR / practical rifle stuff.
Master Funnel Kit (22 cal, 6mm/243, 6.5mm/264, 7mm/284, 30 cal, 338 cal)
Options: 17 CAL, 20 CAL, 22 CAL, 6MM/243, 6.5MM/264, 270 CAL, 7MM/284, 30CAL, 338 CAL, 375 CAL, 408 CAL, 450 Rifle, 50BMG, Dillon Powder Die, Pistol, 3" Drop Tube, Custom Sized Funnel Head

Precision Hardcore Gear
Rifle: .172, .204, .224, .244, .257, .264, .277, .284, .308, .338, .375, .50 BMG
Pistol: 380/9mm, 40, 44, 45, 50
Note Pistol caliber funnels have a .015 allowance for case belling

The plastic sets with different inserts make me twitchy, I like having some weight down on the case as it helps steady the case/funnel combination.

Whatcha using?

I don't remember who made it but the funnel flairs out from the pan not down like umm well a funnel.
so far it has fit everything from 22 through 458.
i'll probably snag 1-2 more for the other scales if I ever see them again, but for now I just rotate it around to whatever scale I'm using and tossed out most of my funnels.

That sounds brilliant, Fiver. Probably a Herters or some other unobtanium antique that no one has since duplicated.

noo I bet lyman or something like that, I think I got it from Midway in the late 90's.
it's one of those things you look at and go hmm?? then use it and go crap why didn't I think of that.
I bet they might still make them because I seem to remember seeing them once, more recently but they were out of stock.
black PVC type construction.
it has gained about .3-.4gr of graphite since new, I scratched the weight in it when I first got it and it has slowly put on some weight over the years.
I will probably do a little sanding on the bottom and shave a smidge off the handle to get the weight back down to what it says when it gains another .1gr.

Lyman has a powder pan with a built-in funnel, it came with a cheap electronic powder scale I bought once. It works very well, in fact I use it all the time (.22 to .44).

Can’t recall using a powder funnel for years?

Steve Satern is a heck of a nice guy and a damn good shot.

I just have a couple old no names , one is MIA at the moment it's probably a 70's Lyman , and best under 350 cal .
The no name on hand swallows up a 358 Win . It's clearish red it was probably a Lee one size fits most . Both feature a venturi shaped spout . The last is just a 22-50 RCBS that came with stuff , it obviously fits the 45s .

In Dad's stuff there is an aluminum funnel with a brass spout 25 cal I think ...... probably a Herters if I were just to guess at it without having it in hand , I haven't seen it in years .

This sounds like the old Hornady funnels I use most often. Mine are aluminum, but I've seen similar funnels in plastic.

I've got one of those that's still in the blister pack. Only one I've ever seen, and in brass at that.

I still use the rcbs green plastic one.
If powder has spilled & bounced all over, its because a 9 or 45 case is sitting in a home made tray & sitting too deep. The funnel is bottoming out on the tray, before making contact with the the case mouth.
Then the Frankford arsenal set gets used.
The Frankford set has worked ok for me. (15ish Years)
Never used the "o" rings that came with it though. The inserts fit tight enough.
Never tried adding powder without supporting it.
The fa funnel gets used to pour powder back into the containers also.
