Hello, my name is Hernan. I am a general surgeon in my country, Argentina, and I m shooter for more than 20 years and recently I started making my own bullets melting lead. I have come to this and another forum looking for info and I am surprised by the quality and quantity of knowledge that exists around here. Greetings to all

howdy.
jump in with your experiences.
I know stuff down there isn't easy to get and you have to be a bit 'adventurous' at times with your loads.

Hello, Hernan!
From another relatively new member, welcome!
Would you like to tell us a little about what kind of shooting you do? Handgun or rifle, target or hunting?
Best regards from Norway.

thanks for the welcome!
I started FBI with a taurus 605, which kicks like a mule. Then I made a lot of shot to the metal silhouette with carbine 22 (cz452, beautiful weapon)
Rifle 150 meters with a rare 1935 mauser, which incidentally, confiscated the government. Then a few years at IPSC with Glock 17.
Now I got full with the long range. At the beginning with a CZ 550 in 308 and now with a 1909 mauser with a German sight of fixed increases. Because of this mauser is that I have started to melt lead. I have been looking for a load for almost 6 months that allows me to reach 2000-2200 FPS with an acceptable precision.
But in this way everything is fun, trial and error. A lot of lead and gunpowder burned on the road. I use a mold, Lee 312-185, which is not my favorite, but it's what you get for these places.

Welcome, sir. I have a fellow shooter here in Kansas City area who is a lawyer who immigrated from
Argentina maybe 10 years ago. Sorry to hear of losing your rare 1935 Mauser. Yes, the CZ452 is a
wonderful gun, my wife loves hers and it is very accurate.

I think your goal of 2000 fps with accuracy is attainable with cast, perhaps a bit more difficult as you go
higher, but it has been done by others. Bullet design, alloy choice, lubricant and FIT - to the throat,
mostly, are critical. But, others here are far more expert on rifles than I am, especially at the somewhat
higher velocities. I tend to stick to 1700-1900 range with my rifle loads.

Welcome, Hernan.

I'm a fan of 1891 Argentine Mausers.

It is a very good rifle, it is reputed to be dangerous because of the way of mounting the action, there have been a couple of hunting accidents, when reloading in a hurry.
Here he is called "mulita" (small mule) since his recoil looks like a kick from this animal.

Always interesting to see how the hobby functions in another country.

Welcome! There is a lot of knowledge here that goes way past just buying things from the store. I suspect you dont have access to a lot of the store bought stuff we have here in the USA. If so, these guys are the ones to tell you how to make it yourself.

The only thing I can not do is powder and primers. Little by little I am learning what is necessary!
