Primer Shortage

Around 1967 I bought a 300 Weatherby Magnum. Factory ammunition was $1 per round, and empty (new) brass was not available. That is when I learned to reload! I came to know that 300 H&H Ammunition could be fired in my rifle and it was surprisingly accurate as well. I got hold of several boxes from a closing-out sale and I was good to go. Then I began to load for all my guns. Sorry for the thread drift.

Funny thing about 6-1/2s, I used a few thousand of them in ARs without issue before I knew better.

You know I always wondered about people using them as I figured people had to but never heard of anyone actually using them for .223. I figured they must work, to much liability if they didn't. I just figured they used the same SR cup to make sure it held in the pressures of .223 but used a but less priming compound so they were softer but they had to still ignite the powder charge.

At large, whereabouts unknown.
I think the caution regarded pierced primers in ARs. Like I said, it never happened to be, but I'd be negligent if I didn't change the way I was doing things bases on that. Especially since Winchester SR primers were more readily available, and the same price.

I used WLRP.in an sks had a slam fire not AD or an ND , muzzle down range , released the bolt , bang ! Not cool . The switch to CCI 300 closed groups from pie pan at 50 to 3×5 at 100 so kind of a win I guess .

It's the floating f pin that results in the advice .
