Problem solved . . .

Our kids are beyond that stage, though the daughter did the swinging door thing twice (Hawaii), but not the son.

Besides, our Class C is the perfect size for just the two of us and the dog.

Did the RV thing, twice. Owned a B and a C Class. Never again. In one word.......................depreciation. Preferred the B Class, cause it can be used as a second vehicle...............can find a parking space, much easily.

Depreciation can be very much avoided by not buying new, and, then, not being in a hurray. We're on our second motorhome, the first was a Class A Winnebago. In between the two was a travel trailer that we sold for a $500 profit.

Rent the house out, live on a boat...how I'd like to think I'd handle that.

Owned a RV, since 1980, when I bought the Class B.....................replacing a 1977 custom van that was stolen and never recovered. Had that one till 1991, when I moved up to the C class. I wasn't in a hurry, since I ordered both units from the manufacture. There is no way to get around depreciation, drive anything off the lot and try to get your money back. I don't buy anything used! I don't need anyone else's problems. RV's have their uses but the disadvantages, outweigh the advantages.

Pickup and camper in 1982; than in 1996 a 24 foot 5th wheel (put 78,000 miles on it and loved every one) gave it to the dealer; and bought a 2012 22 foot with slide. I used the pickups for my business and everyday drivers since 1996. Since I don't trade, but keep everything until it is ready for the junkyard, depreciation is not an issue. We have only put about 12,000 on this one in six years so it will probably be the last one.

Volkswagen camper van when I was in my early 20s. Never bought another VW after that.
30 ft. fifth wheel, bought used in about 2004; sold in 2015. Good experience.
Rented a Winnebago "class C" for 3 weeks during Summer of 2017. Found out I should have rented a "class A". "Class C" is like a roller-skate with a shoebox strapped to it.

Sorry Brad, no hotels in Badlands NP, or Theodore Roosevelt NP, Lolo Pass or Bridger Pass. Wife and I and the dogs want to wake up in the morning and not see another human or man made object. Can't do that from a hotel. Although it was a little disconcerting when the cow elk pushed in the screen over the sink and was licking the dishes from last nights dinner.

Burglarized by an elk for the dirty dishes...nice...but I would set them outside next time. Beats any hotel I been in.

Yep, no hotels at fishing lakes, neither.

Too, staying in hotels means eating junk food or at expensive restaurants, and sleeping in beds that strange and weird people, who you'd never invite into your home, have slept in ( and done who knows what else) before you.

We bought our first motorhome shortly after a she-bear tore through our tent camp site. We saw her coming, then watched the destruction from inside the truck. Did you know that bears like mayonnaise?

Me too!
Opposable thumbs make opening the jars easier, although I bet that bear didn't have much of a problem with the jar.
Biggest problem we ever had was with a gaze of raccoons terrorizing our campsite.
My brother slide the cooler under the seat of a concrete picnic table so you could only open the lid about 1". They cleaned the cooler out, including a two pound tube of butter that looked like it had been through a dishwasher.
It's still a standing joke after 35 years.

No time to stow the coolers, so she had a feast!

I spent most weekends at the range in the 5th wheel and for the big matches could be there for over a week. Work had me in motels frequently and sometimes for weeks at a time. I would avoid them whenever possible for my own bed, my own coffee pot, shower etc.

Because we will never leave our dog(s) in a kennel or even with friends, it was easier and cheaper for us to rent an RV than find pet friendly hotels and pay the additional "pet fee".

I just seen this on a facebook garage sale page today and thought of this thread.
it's listed for only o_O $900 o_O ...looks pretty clean, and the mods looks well done.
...but I'd want to see the welds before I handed over any cash ;)
I wonder where they found one with so little rust? Maybe it was NOT used in Minnesota?
