Question for the experts

Have the 6,5x55 ready to shoot.
Want to shoot cast.
Which NOE mold do you recommend for it.
Noe doesn't have any molds available anyway but need to watch for them.

268469. Plan on sizing .268" and buying a .268" neck expander. Alliant 2400 is your powder. Have fun!

I don’t consider myself an expert, but I’ve tried a few different NOE moulds in my 6,5x55’s.

NOE266-126 has shot very well in all my rifles, so has the NOE268-140. The 266-140 («creedmoor») has also worked well, but the two others have given slightly better results for me, I think. The 268-134 («kurz») is considered excellent for the swedish mausers, but is a bit to fat around the nose for commercial chambers, usually (mine, at least).

With ordinarily lubed bullets, sizing .266 (and .267) has worked well in all my rifles. .265 not so well. I use the NOE push through sizer, where you can get a broad selection of sizing bushings. And the .268x.264 expander plug (which fits the Lee universal flare die).

If you want to try a light weight bullet, the Arsenal 266-92 «spitzer» has also worked well for me.

Best of luck!

NOE re-numbered all their moulds a while back, I think the 268-140 might be the 268469 which is a copy of the Lyman Loverin but big enough for the Military Mausers. The 6.5 Kurz copy is reportrd by many to be excellent but I haven't gotten to try it myself.

Rodmkr, is it a commercial barrel or military? I think that will be important in guys making suggestions. Me, I got nothin' in the way of suggestions, but I'm watching this thread as I have the same questions.

It depends on which gun you have?

I've had the Lyman 268469 and four different NOE 6.5 molds (all that was available at that time).
The Lyman cast too small for my 6.5 Jap. I bought one NOE at a time, and learned each were designed
for a certain Rifle with a certain condition. The only one that worked for my Custom Jap 6.5 was the NOE 270-149 RN (same as image, but numbers changed), it is a clone of the Lyman, only fatter. The taper of the body (all the driving bands) is an excellent design, IMHO...and happens to fit my "rechambered" rifle.

If you rifle is a Swede mil surp, with the typical worn thoat, the Kurtz mold is probably the one you want.

Jon, I bet that would be lots more easier to use in my 6.5 Roberts than that 270 Winchester mold I got for it!

It may be just wishing as the guberment here is trying to ban all lead bullets
even jacketed with lead core.
Too old and too tired to move!

Yep, Sacramento takes another step down its anti-gun, rose petal strewn path. Its commie-inspired incrementalism is so easy to predict -- I saw it coming with the lead hunting bullet ban.

I would think so.
Mine is likely the same, as they seem to go by several names. Mine is stamped 6.5 x 257R
It appears mine was done in the 50s or 60s and then shot very little.
I think when mine was rechambered, I think they may have set the barrel back, and recut the throat, because the throat is short. All the other NOE molds are designed for throats that are worn or just long per Mil Spec...anyway, those other NOE bullets needed to be seated way too deep for my liking, didn't shoot worth a darn.

I have yet to do anything with cast in mine. It's a lovely little Arisaka done up Mannlicher style, weighs about 6 lbs. It is both beautiful and fugly at the same time. I really like it a lot.
