Questioning orthodoxy .45ACP priming [LRP in LPP]

Though primers are slowly returning [59-150+++ / 1K], has anyone run LRP in .45ACP on moonclips or .45 Auto Rim through a S&W 1917? [actually, 1932 Brazilian...].

The rifle primer itself is taller.
Harder to seat level.
The cup is also thicker ( TO DEAL WITH EXTREME PRESSURES OF RIFLE LOADS ) and is not as easy for many pistols to ignite 100% of the time.

Yup, it's taller and made with a thicker cup. This might not work due to the hammer springs, dunno. Looking at cast bullets [@200 grain] at 800-900 fps.

Note: This is NOT for a semi-auto! The LRP in a max depth LPPprimer pocket would be a few thousandths proud. Would a slide fail to go all the way into battery?

At large, whereabouts unknown.
Each individual revolver would be a law unto itself. The priming compound brisance is a lot hotter as well.

I wouldn't do it.
My orthodoxy is to use LPP in 45acp with Large primer pockets.
I didn't know there was an orthodoxy to use LRP in 45acp with Large primer pockets?

There are (ahem) intrepid adventurers out there who make 45 ACP cases from 308 Winchester brass. They cut them down and inside ream the cases to accept .452 bullet. The 451 Detonics cases were also made this way, and Detonics actually made a kit to allow buyers to make their own cases. The round is now generally referred to as 308-45, and has a following in some areas of bear habitat in modified 1911s and Glock 21s. Personally, if I were in such a situation, I'd simply buy a bigger gun.

Ya know, I do recall hearing about making 45 acp shotshell cases using 308.
Other than that, it's all new to me.

I had (may still have) one of the kits to make Dmag brass. I tweaked it to make 45 Super brass, and 45 acp "wadcutter brass". The wadcutter brass had a shoulder for the base of the bullet, and was more bother than it was worth, but my 1917 had no problem setting off the WLRP. Come to think of it, that 1917 almost certainly had a Wolff spring kit.

As to why I ventured down that road, while camping out west I once woke to find a bear in the tent, standing on the sleeping bag I was occupying. Most of the 8 rounds I fired exited the bear; I wanted a bit more velocity, and a bullet that would expand a bit. On my best day I couldn't have got 6 shots off from a revolver as fast as the 8 from the 1911

A guy has to do something with all those split necks on all those cases with .473 rims and heads .

Made a few full cylinder length shot shells that way with a neck for the throat step .

I use WLR in a S&W 625 and Springfield 1911 with no problem, if you clean the primer pockets they seat just fine.

I suggest if you have more LRP than LPP, just trade someone. Surely, there is someone that would be willing to do that.

While I am a natural-born heretic, a LRP into a LPP pocket is outside my experience.
Then don’t look at this LRP in a 357 Magnum, keep this a secret they work.

I guess it is a German thing, but I hate lack of order. I once loaded fifty rounds of 45 AR and found I only had 48 LP primers, so I filled out using 2 LR primers. Yes, they did stand tall over the case head. That made me sorta queasy, but I fired them anyway. Nothing bad happened, but I will not do it again and just put up with the disorder.
