I put a Leupold 3 X 9 X 40 scope on my CVA Break Open 30-06 Springfield rifle.
I loaded 50 rds of ammo.
8.0 grs. Of Bullseye ( That load of 8.0 of B'Eye has proven itself
in several of my 30-06 rifles )
165 gr. NOE RF gas check ( A Ranch Dog Design with conventional lube grooves ) , sized .311"
Primed with Win. Large Pistol Primers.

My 11 yr. old grandson ,Trevor is doing the shooting at 50 yards.
I KNOW there are 5 rounds in this group, could be more than 5 ? ?

With groups like the above, I got out this morning and cast more of the same bullet. They are now lubed , sized .311" and drying after being rolled in BLL.

Looking good Ben! Hard to beat that bullet. I have a plain base original ranch dog I purchased from Brad that I hope to shoot soon.

that's when you tape the details to the stock, put the mold on a retractable key chain and hook it through the rear sling stud.

I've got the other RD, the SC311-165GR RF, this one a plain base. Got it for the Grandsons Marlin Youth 336. Works well in my old 308 JC Higgins 51-L with 10 gr Universal, not like your groups but then it's a pretty well worn rifle.

I use that bullet with 16 gr of 2400 all day long. My 336 is very happy with it.

AWESOME SHOOTING!!!

I have a RD 178 RF mold Copies the Ranch Dog that I like alot too. It drops deep hollow point, a Cup point and a FP like yours.

NOE 178 RanchDog mold

At first I cast with my normal alloy of about 15. Crappy acc with two or three powders in a Contender 30/30. Then cast small bunch again harder to about 19/20. Using 2400 shot good groups but not great. I chalked it up to TL that usually dont shoot great for me.

Move forward 8/9 mo. Im now Playing with 300BO. I try some of that orig cast 15bhn. Under 15g 3031. OMG!! Groups just like you show but the bullets will not feed cause of the profile. That gun hadnt shot cast anywhere near that well. I dont think the 1:7 is cast friendly. I find I need HARD bullets at just over super sonic to get any kind of acceptable accuracy.
I have a buddy who loves the CUP points in his Winchester 94. But he is not a target shooter so 4" groups thrill him. Truthfully its really all thats "required". But I like more. ;)

Im still watchin for a 35 Rem CVA or Traditions to add to my group. Last 35 Rem SS I had I reamed to 356!!

Again awesome Shooting by young Tervor. Some Credit needs to go to Granpa for providing and teaching! KUDOS Ben!!

That is one fine load with a "rifleman" at the trigger.

When that mold first came out we bought one to use in our 30-30s.. Got back up north and found out we had "converted" our last 30-30 to 38-55.
Still have that mold sitting in the box. Have to give it a whirl in our Israel converted 1916 Mauser in 7.62x51 "trunk rifle".

If it will feed in the bolt action ? ? ?
That's one of the reasons that I like to shoot it in single shot rifles.

That big meplat is zero problems in a nice single shot.
I know that you know it, but you might want to stay under 44,000 psi with that 1916. Probably not news to you, but it might help someone reading this.

Been using a tweaked version of it in my Marlin - 16gr A2400 works fine for the GC version & softer alloy. PB (170gr) version works fine in my AR15 BO pistol, 10gr 2400 about 14-1500 fps. 9gr unique for the PB in 30/30. Went through various versions of the RD type before deciding to make my own slick sided version for PC. Original RD Lee did just OK PB, better GCd.

Actually the orig LEE block RD has a smaller meplat and fed SOME OF THE TIME.

Ben,
That is my favorite target bullet for my Savage 340 30-30! For Me 6 grains of American Select shoots a similar group

I use the SC311-165 in a JC Higgins 308. Gun is old and worn, doesn’t feed the greatest, but plenty good enough for plinking. 10 gr Universal gives me 1440 FPS
