Range day with my grandson

I took my grandson Trevor to the range today.
He fired 4 different pistols and rifles.

He did well, he earned ( with good range safety practices today ) himself a Chocolate Sundae after the firearms were cleaned and put away.

Trevor has already asked......." When can we go back to the range ? "

Yes , you're exactly right.
His rifle form is awkward right now.

However, I'm mostly interested in him having fun and enjoying himself right now, plenty of time in the future to work on form.

let him watch you shoot a few rounds I bet he picks up some pointers without you having to say a word.

You are a, lucky man, Ben and your grandson is a lucky boy to have such a excellent influence in his life. I'm sure you will teach him many things that have been forgotten and pushed aside in this hectic modern world! He has a great teacher.

What is especially appealing about spending time with and making memories with the kids and grandkids is knowing that in 50 years, 'Grandpa Trevor' is going to be telling his grandkids, "you know who taught me that? Your Great, Great Grandpa, my Grandpa Ben.

Looks like he's going to stay with it. You may have a good hunting partner before long to help drag some of those AL. deer out of the woods with you sometime in the future.

I took my grandson's 30-30 Win., Handi rifle to the range today.
He has a 4X scope on it now.
I zeroed it at 25 Yards ( that is about as far as he is shooting right now ).
I want him to get some quick success, then we will move the target farther down range.

10 rounds , NOE 103 gr. SWC cast bullet sized .310", plain base
4.2 grs. of Red Dot. Win., Large Pistol Primer.

Ben, that is the key to keeping them interested! In this day an age kids have so many things to go to....I feel yours however is the correct path!
Keep us posted!

My grandson Trevor wanted to go back to the range this morning. ( Of course....I thought that was a VERY GOOD IDEA ! ! )
Today is only his 2nd trip to the range.
Considering he is only 9 yrs. old , I think he is doing well with his youth model Handi 30-30.

I will be taking my oldest grandson to the range in the near future to start with a cricket rifle. I hope I have as much fun as you had.

When I took my sons to the range the first time (about 30 years ago), I brought several cans of the cheapest pop (soda) I could find. To show my kids how serious .22s were, I set a can out about 15 yards and loaded my .22 with a high-velocity hollow-point. I hit it dead center and it exploded. Got hit with a few droplets of pop. After we went through the basics and they were hitting the target pretty well, I let each one of them to explode one themselves. It made an impression. I heard the story of it from my grandson when I mentioned taking him to the range.

I'm awfully anxious to have my own range. We all shoot, but the Mrs. has only been out a few times.
Also figuring on setting up an archery target as we have 3 bows; little recurve, takedown recurve and a compound.
17 year-old is a natural with a bow.
