RCBS 225-55, different versions?

I just received a mould that I haven't cast with yet. A used RCBS #22-055-FN that i picked up for a reasonable price. Casting with RCBS moulds is a pleasure!

The RCBS 225-55 I've seen before, looks like it inspired the Lee c225-55 (and others). This one is different. In fact, it looks much like the Lyman 225415 (the coated bullet in the photo below). Does anyone have any info in this bullet? I assume this is an older version, as it came in a cardboard box and not the green plastic box

Mine is of the current variety and closer to 60gr w/ gc. It has proven to be very accurate from my rifles, mostly 1-9 twist.

My preferred 9 twist 556 bullet is the NOE 225-67-FN MX3. Get one while you still can! The lighter 55gr version is also excellent for shorter throats. Both of these are tapered, and I shoot all of my 223/556 powder coated these days.

Same with me !

@Rick : excellent information, thanks a lot!

I have the shorter of the NOE MX- mould, both a GC and a PB mould. I chose the lighter one, thinking that it would suit my .222 rem better. And it is excellent, probably my favorite so far!

My own RCBS #22-055-SP was purchased in the mid-1990s and is the form depicted in Rick's right-side image. In 92/6/2 alloy it weighs 58 grains from my cavities. It behaves well in both 22-250s (1-12" twists) but is cranky in my 223s with 1-9". The 243 and its 10" twists have been far friendlier to RCBS #6mm-095-SP and Lyman #245496. These days, my 223s are 'All redcoat, all the time'. Life's too short to mess with obnoxious & recalcitrant rifles.

i have the same one as on the right.
LEE copied that version when they started copying the RCBS molds.
probably the smartest thing LEE ever done BTW.

mine comes in at 56-5 or so checked and lubed, the two cavities weigh about .1gr different and overlap as i go along.
