Recommendations for improving my barrel throat

My GP100 is rough, almost looks like a couple of threads in the beginning of the lands. Of course it leads in that area, probably accuracy suffers. I bought the gun new, don't really want to send it to Ruger. Either send some lapping bullets down the bore, try to make a hand lap are the two possible things to try that I have thought of. What say you? Like the gun otherwise. Wish I could post a pic, my borescope laid down on me.

Beg, buy or borrow a Brownell's revolver throating reamer kit. That is what they are made for and have been around about 30 years, so are common.

You can rent on with an 11 deg cutter from 4D Rentals, think it was about $30 if I remember right. Simple operation.

I remember that thread now. I have used a cast bullet to touch up muzzle crowns, may have to try that. Of course I have heard Ruger stainless is tough, probably take some time. Poor man has poor ways. :headscratch:

Ruger stainless is the toughest gun steel I have ever encountered. Tough AND hard. They use a buggered step-drill to cut the barrel t heat, or at least that's what it looks looks like!

A Taylor throating reamer would be the thing to use, but I looked high and low for one years ago and they were unobtainable then.

Well, it's a done deal, at least without magnification the lines are gone. Thanks @wquiles , it actually went quicker than I anticipated. I pulled a 358430 hp out of a box, spun a section of cleaning rod into the hp, wiped some Clover lapping compound on the bullet and spun it a few times, cleaned to inspect, repeat. Need to shoot it now, bet it will be mo bettah.
