Ian,
Was thinking of putting it on a benjamin 392.
Do you think the Bushnell would survive on it?

Nope.

However, mine wore an old Weaver .22 scope for decades and later a Tasco 4x rifle scope with many 500-count tins of pellets through it with no ill effects.

I had one of the early Aimpoint Red Dots on a Ruger MKII. It made the gun bulkier that I liked but it was the very definition of FUN !

The technology has advanced by leaps and bounds. What is available today is far better than what was available 25 years ago.
I've shot AR platforms with various red dot systems, and they are fast at short ranges. I have mixed feelings about the usefulness of a red dot at longer ranges. At some distance the speed becomes less critical and precision becomes a bit more important. I don't know where the transition occurs, but at some distance a scope becomes better. Iron sights, particularly large apertures, can be very fast and still have a place.

I switched over to Ultra-dots, when Trijicon, quit supporting/relamping Armson OEG's. I had to have a one inch tube to fit a expensive scope mount on my compound bow. Rings were not removable. Ultra Dot was the only option...........every other one's were 30 mm tubes or some other oddball metric designation. The rheostat never got set past the lowest setting, unless, I was facing directly into full sun.............hardly ever. Even at the lowest setting, it was too bright for dawn and dusk. When I switched to an X-bow, I didn't put an Ultra-dot on it. I went with a Trijicon Reflex.

I have half dozen of the Armson OEG's, from the early 80's. They can't be relamped but they all still work, except during extreme low light conditions................so they are relegated to plinking, not hunting or personal defense.

For long range, the smaller the dot, the better. I prefer 1 MOA dot but those are as rare as hen's teeth.. One of my Trijicon reflexes is a Special Forces model, with a 1 MOA dot. Usually, 2 MOA is the smallest available, but many are much larger than that...........ranging from 4 - 9 MOA.

A compromise would be the triangular dot. Use the apex of the triangle for long range work, the entire triangle for up close and personal.

I do not agree. The Benjo is a pumper they are not hard on optice a d All Bushnells are airgun rated. Email Bushnell for horses mouth answer. But I have had a airsoft cheapo on a Crosman 2200 for YEARS and its fine.

I wondered why mine never killed any rifle scopes. Also didn't know the trs25 was airgun rated, good news then, thanks for setting me straight CW.

Ian,
I would not expect it to last on a Springer. But I wouldnt expect any to be able to withstand the "double" recoil.
I have read many times Bushnell optics are airgun rated. I cannot find specifics that the TRS-25 IS included in that. AIRGUN rated really should say SPRINGER RATED. Casue CO2 and Pneumatic guns dont have "problem" recoil like a Springer (most break barrels) IS.
What Im saying is A pneumatic airgun is not at all hard on optics. I know I have used one for most of the last decade and its been fine.

I have a Bushnell airgun rated scope on my RWS springer that is notoriously hard on scopes. It is the AO model designed for airguns and I have not had a bit of problems with it for the past 15 yrs or so that it has been on that rifle.

I recently bought a Ruger Mark II target. It was on Gunbroker with a red dot sight and 5 magazines. I was the only bidder @ $300. A new adjustable rear sight cost $45. That should let you know about the resale market on guns with them and how I feel about them. I do acknowledge that 5 mags probably shows a lot of rounds with the gun.

I shoot dots OK but think they are a pain to holster. If you stand hunt or just want a range gun it might work. I shoot a rifle a lot better with a 4x scope than a dot.
