Redding lube sizer press

New to bullet casting I bought a Redding press and was told Lyman & RCBS lube sizer and top punches will work on the Redding press which they do not. I called Redding they told me that there was someone that makes a attachment for my press where I could use the Lyman & RCBS lube sizer & top punches. Anyone know where I can one?

At large, whereabouts unknown.
I hadn't heard that one. I had a SAECO sizer and the dies were totally different. That was awhile ago, and I suppose SAECO could have changed designs, but I'd be surprised if they changed them after all these years. IIRC, the Lyman/RCBS dies are larger in diameter than the SAECO, and are retained at the bottom of the dies instead of the tops.

I have a Saeco top punch I use in my Lyman 450. They are compatible. The dies are not best of my knowledge.

how could you use a saeco top punch in a lyman 450? the redding/saeco top punch is threaded 5/16-24 and the lyman and rcbs top punches are a straight .265 held in with a set screw. and, i think that the redding tech. might have been mistaken about a adaptor for the redding lube/sizer

I guess some are compatible.

I have seen someone offering an adapter. Possibly NOE or Accurate. I suspect it is a cone shaped adapter that positions the straight RCBS/Lyman top punch shank so it can be used in Saeco lubrisizers.

Sounds like this is what your looking for.

A possible other alternative - if this gentleman is still with us, as he makes custom Saeco sizer dies to order, he probably also does the top punches as well. Given the responses and referrals to the online vender here, perhaps this is more relevant to sourcing finished custom Saeco sizer dies.

Stemming from an ongoing project, last year I spoke with Robert Warrick, owner of C&R Gunship since 1979. A pleasant and lengthy conversation with a very nice man about guns, hunting, casting, reloading, etc ensued.

The bottom line is he told me he will make any size Saeco Lubri-Sizer sizer die, complete with internal plunger rod, for about $75, shipped (to US destinations). Given that the OEM sizer dies are sold at Midway and elsewhere for about $45 plus shipping, a little less than $30 more for a custom size die is a pretty good deal. I needed a .316" Saeco lubrisizer die for a DCRA Lee Enfield target rifle, and of course Saeco/Redding does not offer them at anything close to that size.

I have not seen any of Rob Warrick's work; he was recommended to me by Redding. Right after speaking with him, I gave powder coating a trial run. That more than addressed my problem, so much so that I've converted to powder coating for all my casting. However, as he's managed to make a good living as a gunsmith since 1979 and was recommended by Redding, I assume he knows his business. Anyways, the contact info:

C&R Gunshop

Phone: 505-345-1773

BTW, he mentioned he's 80 years old last year. While he sounded sharper than most of the people I have to deal with every day, I wouldn't wait another ten years to order a sizer die from him.

Just out of curiosity, anybody here with a Saeco/Redding Lubri-sizer ever attempted to wrap the mounting post of a Lyman/RCBS nose punch with the fine tin foil some of the high end chocolate bars come wrapped in. Or kitchen tin foil, whatever works.

Enough of the right wraps, and then see if they will thread in the Saeco sizer and tighten on the mounting post of a Lyman/RCBS nose punch enough to make them usable like that?

Sounds like a 100% Montucky redneck engineering, but I wonder if would work?

Not sure what your asking but . . . Is this what your looking to do?

Nope; I think the vendor you referenced offers a better solution to a Saeco owner who already has a bunch of Saeco threaded top punches - which that solution would render them unuseable (that would be me). I am probably about to end up in Keith's Korner ordering a handful of those Saeco top punch cup blanks to use for making custom nose punches. Cheaper than doing that with a Saeco nose punch, for one thing.

I was just curious as to whether wrapping the mounting post of a Lyman/RCBS top punch with foil and then screwing into the top of the Saeco would work in a pinch.

Notice I didn't suggest heli-coils as another Montucky redneck engineering alternative...

Yep, they are all crooked. Tried when I didn't have enough money to buy SAECO punches I wanted.
