All finished with the 45 Auto Rim fill-ups.

Marie had me go with her for a good part of the day to pick up and deliver school documents between campus sites. Some of the school sites were a little furry, and I did not keep it a secret that I was none too impressed with a couple of their neighborhoods. Some people just cannot RETIRE, I guess. I have no concept resistance within that venue.

I did get a combo burrito and shredded beef soft tacos out of the deal, and a couple bags of tortilla chips and good salsa as well. So there were compensations. Dinner finished, I adjourned to the Reloading Habitat and made cartridges. I have at least 5 calibers of empties out there in need of tumbling and refill--wheredahell did THOSE all come from? I don't remember. Busy morning of doctoring tomorrow and again on Tuesday.

Isn't retirement interesting? I've never been bored, just not enough energy to do all the things I want to do. Nor enough time left!

The past year has been pretty interesting, learning how to walk all over again. All kinds of after-market options on board now. Great fun.

Downstairs in the basement, doing laundry since this is the opening day of WI deer season... Lots of uptight folks out there, and my Brittany doesn't need that kind of excitement...

While waiting for a wash cycle to complete, I started to cull some unused stuff. Went under one bench, pulled some unused [and unuseful!] stuff out... huh, look at that black large case to the back... must have been he stowed it to the back after he could no longer hold it up to shoot it...

Me and my Brittany Spaniel have been looking for my dad, he's out there somewhere... far as I know, he slipped out of the hospital and he's roaming around southern Wisconsin...

Laughter through tears...

He said he wouldn't be around to see the popple come back. DNR here in WI got on a tear about sharptails back in the 90s [?] and then fetish-ized on large fields of prairie grass. Big grass field, nothing to eat = no birds...

As Belle and I stumped around southern Wisconsin this season, I see small clumps of popple volunteering... Legs are getting back to normal strength after LOTS of busting brush, the muscle is finally extending down past the ankle bones... hummocks are not the terror they were last year, lots of looking up at Jesus... Thankfully, falling in a swamp is usually soft, but wet...

Saw my last Woodcock down in Avon Bottoms on 11 November. Hope it got down to New Orleans for lots of beads, ready to make more little Woodcock in 2020. Belle was on fire Friday, DESTROYED a few clumps to root the Roosters out... Not her fault.... Easily inside 20 yards... I've tried an SKB 100, 26" IMP/MOD [doubles w/ heavy loads], 28" MOD/FULL, and a Yildiz 28" SxS, MOD/FULL... Got the old man's 16ga SxS Kassnar out Saturday, found quite a few boxes of 1 1/8 oz #7.5s, not my first choice for pheasants, but if Belle works like she did, it should do... Lotta lead, lotta dead...

Old soybean field they didn't plant this year, too wet. Mostly tall, spindly weeds with remaining unpicked soybeans. Ten roosters early last week. Lotta banging, no getting...

Belle and I will give 'er a go Monday, I expect most of the Deer Hunters will be out of the fields. We'll get there about 10am.

Looking at a S&W 1917 [or maybe a later Brazilian 1937?] bowling pin gun with a slab side barrel in 45 Auto Rim. What is a dependable shooter in this revolver? I suspect the gun is tight and the bore is .452, no idea right now on the cylinder throats.

I am NOT looking at heavy bullets -OR- screaming velocities. Wadcutters, SWC, RN, RN/FP are all loved. Not hot on Gas Checks, I would go broke feeding my plumbous addiction. Expected targets are gongs up to 50yds [maybe 75 or so...].

Sorta bi-curious on Lee tumble lube, but I am not a fan of Lee molds... If it ain't iron, I'm not partial to it.

I want to use Starline Auto Rim cases ['cuz this is 'Merica!] and a powder that is less likely to double charge... My presses are single stage, I deprime and prime manually. Shells are charged as a group with thrown charges. Expect to use one of my RCBS UPMs, so some powders won't be +/- .1 grains, but whatever...

Did you ever work up a load for this pin gun?

I am using SAECO 453, with my alloy, 240 grain full wadcutter bullet.I used to load it over 4.5 grains of a Red Dot. Not sure why, but I switched back to Bullseye. Loaded to 850 fps it should be an awesome pin load.

Here are a couple of the 1917s I use. The 4” at one time was my EDC, it now rests, easy to hand, in our office. The 5 1/2” are both commercial models. Also have some newer ACP S&W revolvers but you asked about the 1917, albeit with an aftermarket barrel. The newer models, with model numbers have a different heat treatment of the cylinder and different steels that makes them stronger.
