Reloading kit for my Grandson

I think it picked up a speck of lathe swarf and got a scratch across the sensor wires. It felt gritty suddenly and then blanked out when I was turning an SS powder-thru insert, then gave an error message and after that wouldn't even turn on. Swapped batteries and cleaned it to no avail. I've used the crap out of it for right at 20 years and it had a pretty hard life as a mechanic's tool, then as a gun room do-all, and most recently as a lathe accessory. I'm still searching for a good replacement, looks like Mitutoyo is the thing now. Got a cheap-ish "large print" set that also can display fractions to hold me over.

After an extensive search, it appears that Fowler still offers the Sylvac line of Swiss Calipers, although they've been re-styled. I may give the new ones a shot.

I’ve been real happy with all the SPI stuff I’ve gotten. Fowler is good too.

"Very Nears" as I have heard them called are generally accurate and repeatable to about the same or better than Chinese digital. My (RIP, *sniff*) Swiss Fowler digital calipers would rival quality, calibrated Vernier c-clamp mics to +/- the low end of four decimal places.

I'm kind of brand-loyal, in that when I find a tool that is absolutely dependable and I get to know it like the back of my hand, if it needs replacing I want another one exactly like it. The cheapo I got for temporary use/extra feels different when I pick it up and it grates on my nerves. Kind of like the HP 32S-II RPN calculator, used the thing for 30 years and I hope it never dies because there is no equivalent replacement available today.

Ben, thanks for the inspiration to compile my mobile reloading kit. I used it successfully at the range this past weekend and got a few comments on it.

MIL gave me an old (1920ish) 12 ga. for paper shells. Wanted to try fit of plastic ones so I dumped shot/powder and tried it in the back yard. Ringing ears but no sirens. Did not repeat! Did try 3 dove loads in it, then gave to relative for a wall hanger. Even with pad I couldn't take the recoil.

Very nice Ben my granddaughter helps out also when time permits. Hey what kind of lube you running on the WC's :)

Bottom ring with 50% B-Wax / 50% Black Moly then the wadcutters are rolled in Ben's Liquid Lube and allowed to dry overnight.
