Greetings
Do not despair yet. I have a 1873 Winchester in 32-20 that is pitted with interrupted rifling. Rifling that is gone in areas. Used it for years as my ground hog rifle. Still shoots an oversized .315 PB bullet to minute of ground hog out to 35 yards.
Have a Krag Sporter that key holed at 25 yards. Took a bunch of cleaning and found a fat RN 220 grain mold that drops 50-50 at .316. Shoots good enough to hit bowling pins at 100 yards off cross sticks.
You may still have a bunch of junk in those grooves.

you still have no rifling at the muzzle.
I'd shoot a couple more of the PP bullets and see if it keeps on pushing things out.
and I know the paper will polish the barrel some more.

now if you can get it down to having some sort of rifling and near bare steel you might [should] be able to get it going again as is.
the pitting is workable and you can fight much of that condition with a lube adjustment.
this is one place where a modified carnuba wax actually works well.

I was wondering if someone was going to see that line that use to be a rifling, I will continue to clean and shoot it, I got nothing but time. It looks like it is very very close to bare metal, I wish I could get a solid pic of the bore...

Josh,
Just keep at it and have hope. I was in no way going to replace the barrel on my JP Sauer 98 Mauser For me history is more important. Here is photo #1 of the bore after I did 80 % 0f the firelaping Still looked like a loss.

This is how it shoots now Photo #2 Granted I use a .338 cal cast bullet Sized down to about .332" ( So it isn't an 8 mm any more but it work darn well once I found out what & how to feed it

With 3 of the riflings pictured being flat and the 4th looking the same and shooting the way it does I am going to call it, there is a point of no return and I think I am there. I think I am going to order a criterion barrel and save this one for resale value. Leave it 30-06 shoot the new barrel and when it is time to sell twist on the original barrel.

Before you order a criterion barrel ...consider a new old stock two groove original Remington....it will shoot cloverleaf s. ....Wil increase the value of the gun and be correct...finish.....barrel markings and all.....and all for less money than the criterion.......it will slip right on and have a front sight......it will be the same as an arsenal rebuild.....no need to Bubba it...
