i will say it again, Winchester screwed the pooch on NOT bringing the public out on the 35/30 in 1894.
They definitely missed that one!
Remington spotted that hole in 1906 when they introduced their auto loaders and came up with the 35 Rem. Wonder whether they tried the 32 Rem opened up to 35 and decided a bigger case was needed. It is always fun to critique old decisions and designs.

Well, yes you can but they will break. Nothing bad will happen unless you scratch the cylinder trying to dig the broken pieces out. So far I have gotten three reloads out of them with 38 grains of FFF and the Keith bullet.
Back when I had a 44 Russian single shot, the only brass available was balloon head REM-UMC. Worked just fine, although I did not load for high velocity.

yep, one of the 2 X57 rounds i haven't played with.
hard to justify when there's 2 220 swift's and a 22-250 sitting there i hardly use.

Ha. Remember many of those writing these descriptions are not nearly as knowledgeable as we are... the case is likely "tapered" to add mass to web. I mean have you ever read a claim it was tapered inside to retain bullets?? CW
The only cases I found that have an "internal taper to retain bullets" are original 7.35x51 Carcano cases made in 1939 by SMI. Lotsa work to convert to reloadable brass.

That idiotic blather was someone with little enough respect (call it contempt) for his audience that he/she figured that just making up crap would be good enough. Never mind that we all carry the Internet around in our pocket these days, as few bother to actually look something up - do research - because any actual effort might indicate some level of respect for their readership. Credibility, these days is apparently conveyed upon oneself BY oneself by ignoring facts and disregarding very accessible history and just making up whatever crap enters his or her tiny brain, because everyone lived in darkness before said "savior" descended upon the earth to enlighten the feeble-minded, ignorant masses previously deprived of their inspiring presence. Spurious blather is damned well good enough for the peons who only read about it, when there are those of superior intellect who only write about it - only write about it.

And no, I'm not just being sarcastic I'm dead-serious.

I don't know that I've come across any with internal taper expressly intended to stop set back . I have had a lot of assorted straight cases with canlures for that reason. There are dozens of shotshell examples but those were more about sealing the powder section than setback.

Outside of neck donuts I don't think I've ever encountered or even read about any sort of a taper or canlure in a necked cartridge.

Granted, one must develop their olfactory prowess to us the Internet as a tool, but that's all part of the effort involved in learning. Not the ONLY tool, but if it's handy (usually is) there are some people posting worthwhile stuff on other sites.

To your point though, I do actually ask my students not o go on the 'net looking for supplementary information on subject matter by themselves until their distinction rate of detection is above 95% in knowing the difference between the aromas of expensive cheese and BS.

Good thoughts Jeff. At the present, I am researching antique wood working tools for the local Museum and find WiKi very useful for proper terms and names. When I get close I can go to some of the UK sites, as there seems to be lots of old tool collectors over there.

Agree. It isn't really "research" if you rely on one source alone. You can find a loose thread to start pulling on there.

Antique wood-working tools is one of my other "weaknesses." The Internet is a technological marvel which allows some of us old "Luddites" to find the far-flung other Luddites to swap information, tools/cash for what many believe to be anachronistic curiosities. I go for "users." I love a quiet shop.

I hear you brother! Built my flintlock rifle from parts, not a kit, using only hand tools. Well, I used a wood vise while scraping the swamped barrel channel. After my second retirement, the winter months were slow for jobs and I spent many happy hours with a file and a scraper.
