Remove a bevel base

I've owned a 6 cav. Lee, 38/357, 158 gr. RF mould for about 8 or 9 years now. It is the one with the bevel base.
If you're not careful with your lube pressure on your lube/sizer, you'll end up with excess amounts of lube under the base of the bullet ( easy to do ).

Many people say they are unable to tell the accuracy difference between a plain base bullet and a bevel base bullet. I don't know ? ?

Today I decided to use a 23/64" (.3594") Diameter 6 flute reamer and remove the bevel base feature from all 6 cavities of my mould. It worked perfectly.

I may have to try out some of these in my Ruger #1, 357 Max.
I shoot a lot of standard 357 Mag. loads ( 1,200 - 1,250 fps ) out of this rifle with great accuracy.

Ben,

Did that to my six-cavity mould years ago, too. Didn't notice any change in accuracy, but it sure is nice not having to wipe lube from that bevel base.

Also, used the same process to remove the gas check shank from the Lee C-358-158 SWC.

You're a better man than I, Ben!

I did a C309-113 2xCavity recently and was breathing easy after I got those TWO cavities done without a disaster. Not sure I'm up to teasing Lady Luck with SIX in a ROW!

Nice work and thank you for the inspiration.

Not your first rodeo on this - I'm certain the only reason I tried it was because I'd seen that you had done it.

When I do my " set up ", I check the entry point of the reamer, " 6 Ways to Sunday ". Takes me 10 X longer to do the " set up " than the actual reaming with my drill press.

Entirely normal and the end result is a good job. The key to doing ANY good machine work is a good setup.

For any folks who think about doing this: Ben is using the proper tool in the proper way and emphasizing key points of the process in this post and several others. If you pay attention and heed his advice you will be well served.
