Removing stains on stainless steel

My wife has decided she will live with the small spot stains in the sink. They seem to be imbedded in the steel rather than surface stains. Thanks for all the suggestions.

I have to wonder what caused those pitted stains in the first place. Oven cleaner? Drain cleaner gel?

All she ever uses is soap & water and the Mr. Clean eraser. The stains are not pitted, they are discolorations, like a water stain, except they are not surface stains like I originally thought, they appear to be in the metal.

Lemishine is a dishwasher additive, harmless to people and things. Citric acid is basically the active
ingredient in lemonade. I think there is a good chance that a poultice of damp lemishine sitting on it
for 20-30 min will clear it up.
People hear "acid" and imagine sulfuric acid eating their hands and choking, dangerous fumes.
Think lemonade.
