While trying to get a Low-Wall .22 K-Hornet [rechambered from .22 Short] to shoot with cast bullets, I dropped some cash on a retail Lyman 225438. I cast up some 225438 a year or so ago for a .22 Hornet. Never got around to loading them. Well, getting back to them recently, I measured about 5 of them with a digital micrometer and they dropped at .224, and that is something. I expected some differences [dual cavity] but they seem to be consistent between cavities...

Looking to pick up some Lee Liquid Alox, no need to size them.

I have A BUNCH of these cast up, in both 92/6/2 and in straight Linotype. My mold is a very old Ideal one-holer, but its castings are gorgeous in either alloy and i have run them to 2400 FPS from the Hornet with far better accuracy than I expected They drop at .225"+, and clean up in a .225" H&I die very well. I have a copy of article data by Mike Venturino using #225438 in 22-250 in which he claims stellar accuracy at some higher velocity levels. One of these days, maybe.

works in the 220 swift too.
I use the same load of I-4895 in all three, it makes life pretty simple and the case life is about infinity for the 2 bigger cases, if I take a bit of care when prepping them.
a 55gr, swaged soft bullet from the 220 is just as effective as from the 223 but the recoil is like a ?,, well [shrug] like a 22... LOL.
everyone that shoots the little rem 700 with that load can't seem to put it down or stop smiling when they get the boof.... smack instead of the boom they expected.
