Walnut, inhouse "stocks" on the Dback. Absolutely, can make anything out of wood and these grips were a result of YEARS of "development"..... fancy, musings about, make a set, shoot them, move on.

The D frame is almost exactly 1/2way between the Smith "J"..... and "K". This model grip has the perfect amt of palm swell. Which is very important on the smaller frame models.... iffin you ask me.

I usually "shoot" a catalyzed hybrid..... and don't like this word due to ambiguity but.... "varnish".

It's a mainstay in trad bow world. Can't site actual "development" criteria but..... it started late '40's and is STILL being shot in the industry. It,like D frame is halfway between a more typical cat varnish and a full on epoxy. Gloss is adjustable from glossy, need sunglasses to..... so "flat" it starts to kill some figure. Further, can be textured to produce little tiny "dots" in the finish.

These dots are similar to orange peel.... similar in principle to how we intentionally texture machine tool finishes. It gives a cushion or shock absorption to the finish. Black Widow bow co STOLE the idea from me,haha... not really, but they surely didn't invent the dot idea. Can't remember what they call it? But in anycase.... this is "that" finish.

Only thing is however..... the stocks above, ain't that finish. Just need to know we can shoot epoxy or the hybrid. Before saying that because these were in R&D,they got shot with some chickensheet lacquer. The logic was, don't waste the $$ on finish/labor if the shape sucked.

BHM.....

Black holsters matter..... and before anyone complains, would just like to add....

"Until they don't"

Pay attention to sling moorings. This rig is more serious than a heart attack. 20190729_100259_resized.jpg

Can't we all just get along?

No..... until you master a dbl action Colt, you got things to learn. And yes,we have some pro tuned "Smiths". They're easy.... learn to stage a Colt DA before flapping your pie hole.

But,but,but..... "you can't get parts/service for those Colts"

This is true..... but like a 10 y.o. BMW,that perspective comes from a consumer P.O.V.

Think this.... somebody MADE those parts before you ever heard of them, right? Well...duh,what keeps anyone from banging out parts on an as needed basis? Further, until you're throwing rods at 9k RPM's on the ole bimmer or actually USING a dang Colt revolver, what exactly is your point? Just sayin, folks blabbering about service costs are more often than not,a bunch of....

Two of the BEST D-frame Colts ever birthed--the 3rd-Series DetSpec and the D-back. Good to know that a few folks take them out and run them from time to time, instead of turning them into retired safe queens.

I have a modest number of Colt revolvers. I bought a Police Positive in .38 S&W which was internally jammed up
for $100 and got it working, but the timing was off, so I fixed that, and the end shake was excessive, so I made some
shims for the cylinder. Now a fine gun, quite accurate.

I have a couple of Cobra's, too. I bought a "kit" of all the parts to a Cobra that was destroyed by court order, so have
some spare parts for the Cobras. The 1917 and the Anaconda will not likely ever need parts, at least that is my theory.

Guns can be repaired by a skilled amateur, often by repairing the existing parts.

I have a 4" Colt PP in 38 S&W. Its condition is excellent, and it is a small game/varmint whacker of the first order. 3.0 grains of Herco give about 700 FPS to a Lyman #358477, and shoot right to the fixed sights at 25 yards. Birth year is 1920 IIRC. A little jewel.

Good stuff guys! Pistolero you should do a little write up on your Colt...... I'd enjoy it and am sure others would too.

Man,I've had/have a dz or more brown holsters. They're fine if you never leave the house..... or in handgun circles, they're "BBQ rigs". Which IS downright funny. All my revolvers could be considered the opposite of that meaning, they get used.... a lot. Got a first year issue '80 4" 629 "old model"... pinned brrl and recessed cylinders. Look them up in the Blue book sometime.... valued right up there with Pythons. That 629 has been drug around, hunted HARD with.... dropped, scratched, you name it. Has a full on professional action job. Guys are always looking at me funny for doing it from a collector standpoint. What do you say?

Tell them..... see that Python? Shot that beech 15k rounds in one summer back a decade or 3. It shoots a Lee 140g SWC into a ragged hole at 50yds,all day long. That'll usually just get eyerolls and they walk away.

Got one of the last #14 Smith's before the "hole".... got a mild, stage 1 tune on it. 6" barrel. Could count on one hand how many times it's been shot single action.... just love shooting dbl action. It likes an old ideal 358495 mould we have. Guy gave me one of those big arse cans(looks like a 5g bucket) of 700X..... nuff said. Load up several hundred and go kill some beer cans.

OK,this is a good one,and it's sorta, needed to be there to get the irony.

One of my "stray" boys.... his parents go through a nasty divorce and pretty much tossed him and his younger brother out on the street. He was friends with my middle boys. So long story short he comes to live with us for a year. Bout 12 y.o. at the time.

Fast fwd.... must've been the guns? Or maybe some sense of protecting society from idjits like me(kidding) but he goes off to the police academy. Comes back a year or two after that and him and one of the boys are dinking around shooting "at" cans down at the 100 yd berm behind the house shooting @15 yards or so. I was sitting on the porch watching these dumbarses with his issued Glock.

They finish off a cpl boxes and come up to the house.

I'm like,y'all suck..... BAD. Sit tight. Go get my Python which wasn't scoped. And took out 3 of the 6 cans they lined up on the first cylinder full @100 yards. Couldn't do it now,but it wasn't luck.
