Really considering a new handgun in a couple months. I’ve had my eye on a Bisley Blackhawk in 45 Colt. How are the throats on the newer Rugers? I might even go with a convertible. 45ACP in a wheel gun sounds like fun too. I have an RCBS 45-270-SAA mold as well as a custom 300+gr mold Ian had made that I traded him for. My only other 45 Colt is a 1873 SAA clone made by Cimmeron.

I bought the Bisley convertible last year and love it!
The gun is amazingly accurate.
It has only shot cast from the word go and never needed more that a wipe down and a couple patches down the bore.
The throats on both cylinders were .4515 across all. Never slugged the bore just sized to fit the throats and started shooting.
I don’t know if I won the lotto or just ruger just stepped it’s game up on the Bisley convertible.
The throats were smooth as well as the forcing cone.
I looked at a standard model and the fit and finish was not as nice.
Here is a link showing the one I bought - https://www.ruger.com/products/newModelBlackhawkConvertible/specSheets/0475.html

Max. That is one of the versions I was looking at. Slick looking revolver!

Max. Have you had any luck finding a holster for that 3 3/4” barrel?

Get the convertible, you won't be sorry except your next lust will be for a Marlin 1895 in .45 ACP. Ask Outpost75 about his, I think it was a John Taylor special.

It kind of surprises me they would offer that with that short barrel in .45 colt. Aren’t all the other versions 4 5/8”?

the only Ruger I have even considered getting the throats cut on is the 44 special Blackhawk in stainless.
the blue version is no problem, the bisley is no problem, the convertible in 45 is no problem, the 41 hunter is spot on.
just that stupid stainless gun, and it needs a couple of cylinders opened.

A very recent Bisley Hunter I bought earlier this year has a GREAT "Tale of the Tape" as far as throats go--all are "pass" on a .430" pin gauge, and "no-go" on a .431" pin.

I don't mind if the throats run a mite tight--that I can have corrected affordably. It's those wide ones that annoy me--that costs real money to get right, a new mould and forcing cone re-cut. Revolver tech is approaching its 175th year, you would think by now that the mysteries had been figured out.

I bought a Lipsey convertible BH from a CB shooter/forum member.
The previous ownerhad the throats on both cylinders done.
I don't recall the specifics or who did them?
all I know it was a great shooter when I got it...It now resides at my Daughters place.

I bought mine in 1979. Sent it back to Ruger for a higher front sight.
NINE Months later they sent a New (Same SN#) Gun back to Me with a .45ACP Cylinder. And the highest front sight they made.

Sighted it in with #452454 over a stiff load of Unique.
Tried the .45ACP Cylinder with 200gr #68, warmish.
Shot 1 foot low.
Cleaned ACP cylinder, stuck in little red bag. Haven't touched it since. Except to see if it would fit and index in one of my .45Colt Vaquero's. It did.

Tried to get Ruger to fit .45ACP Cylinders to my Vaquero's. They refused, said the 7 1/2" were never made Convertible. So NO.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Har! I stuck the 45 Colt cylinder in the bag when I got my BH convertible! To each their own. I honestly don't think I own more than 1 or 2 pieces of 45 Colt brass and no dies. Maybe someday the urge will hit me.

I had a 2nd Gen Colt 7 1/2" in .45Colt when I bought the Ruger, so I had brass/ammo.

These Days I have 1600+ boxed .45Colt and a Folgers 3lb "can" full of once fired Ten-X/UltraMax.
I think I have half again as much .45ACP.

I have 9 guns chambered for .45Colt, but only 5 for .45ACP. So it's just better for me to Load each Caliber.

I'm constantly amazed at how few people have "a couple buckets" of .45 ACP brass under a bench somewhere. I can shoot the ACP stuff dozens of times without trimming it and never feel guilty about losing a few or culling some especially beat-up ones. On the other hand, I have a couple K of .45 Colt, mostly Starline, a lot new and most with fewer than five firings on them, and protect them like a jealous husband. SASS games call for a different sort of collecting than what I do I guess.

I’ve got around 5k ACP brass and I think 1400 Colt cases. More than enough for the volume of shooting I do.
