Quicksylver, I've always loved the "springfields". Brought my first one home on the schoolbus in 1963. Bought a DCM rifle from a schoolteacher for $25. He made a little money on it, a A3 Remington 2 groove. Still have that rifle, killed a truckload of deer with it.

My .02, what is your exact goal? You want a bug hole group I know. But do you have to tear up your point of aim? Put some + or - in your elevation, and carry on. Your POA goes away as you shred it and you start doing things to see it when it's half gone.
But if you want itsey bitsy groups and the dot to disappear, that is different. Remember the carnivals with the machine gun BB gun and the star, had to be no black left to win...................

One other question, how long does it take you to shoot the five shots? Buddy of mine was shooting for group, revolver, and it was a pattern. Took him less then a minute he said. Every shot is the first shot. Don't look at the blasted group look at the target. He slowed down and it came together nicely.
Jeff

Jeff..great suggestions. ..actually I group off target ..that load just happened to hit there...I did not have enough rounds to chang settings....

It probably took about 60- 90 seconds per round ...restageing the rifle ,me and the target..trigger pull..good question next time I will time it..

None of my '03s or 03A3 are full military. They all have been cut, restocked, or both. Regardless, from what I've seen, if the bore is somewhat reasonable looking, they can shoot well with cast. My only 2 groove barrel is on an old Rock Island action, but it isn't fussy in the least as to bullet design. I prefer the milled '03 parts to the war time, stamped pieces found on the A3s. Both of my "low numbers" have mismatched bolts with one being a double heat treat variety, and the other nickel steel.

300...you are right ....it doesn't make much difference how they are configured...they shoot..
..is the nickle steel one is stamped NS?

That bolt IS marked NS. The other bolt mentioned is a J5 so is of the variety used on NM rifles from 1919-1924 or so.
