My grandson Trevor asked about shooting my 357 Max, Ruger # 1.
I don't think he is ready for " full tilt loads " just yet out of this one.

However , I have an accurate " mild load " for him to shoot.

Thanks, I only have the 1 grandson.
Trevor and I both plan to make the best of it.

My own son is not yet too interested in firearms. Still, he listened enough that he passed his Boy Scout Merritt badge on his first attempt. My daughter is a little more interested, so there is hope :)

Those times with the grand kids are jewels to take advantage of.
That is a fine idea to rebore a #1 ! I should have bought stock in JES years ago as we have at least 10 of his fine shooting rebored barrels.

JES is a real winner in my book.
I've talked with him on several occasions.
A real class act.

Beautiful rifle Ben. I just love the #1's. My oldest grandson, Lucan, age 11 is just getting started. The times spent with grandkids are very special.

Ben looking at your pictures. The barrel started as a 222 and was bored out to a 35 cal. I am wondering how strong the barrel is and will it hold together with some of the higher velocity loads.
Don't get me wrong I am not knocking what was done to it. I am just concerned with the thin ness at the end of the barrel.

Dang, that rifle taunts me!

I saw the "222" also and would have been torn myself on reboring it, but I think it was the right thing to do and that Ben obviously has more foresight than I.

He knows his minimum dimensions for rebore or he wouldnt do them. A friend had a Winchester LWT 223 bbl re chambered to 35 Rem and installed on his Action. Not sure action. Shoots dimes!! VERY HAPPY!

General Julian Hatcher, 1920's, reported that 0.080" thick over the chamber of then "armory steel" barrels would withstand proof load in 1903 Springfield, FWIW.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
It's not the muzzle diameter that matters. It's the first 6" or so, and really probably the first 3" in something like the max.

I can say that the 92's even in 44&454 are pretty thin at the muzzle .

It seems like I read a requirement at some point , Cut Rifle maybe , that the guide was more or less 2 calibers for muzzle dia up to 30 cal so the .15>< over groove dia would make sense as a standard . The barrel I had in mind at the time would have had to have been cut back about 3" to meet that requirement from 7mm to 35 cal .
