I've always thought that this rifle was unusually accurate with cast bullets.
I've not shot it in some time.
Yesterday I took it to the range with one of it's favorite loads.
I wasn't disappointed.
The shooting was off a bench @ 100 yards.

I was shooting the conventional lube ring , gas check bullet.
This is an Accurate Mould that I designed , made by Tom Ellis.

What are those green things hanging on your trees?

I somehow have a feeling Ben doesn’t use filler with any loads. But I could be wrong?

The mosquitos wait that long?
One thing is for certain, the farther north you go the bigger those things get. I’m sure you will have a bumper crop this year.

72 degrees yesterday.
Very nice day to be at the range.

Ben
That was Wednesday. A nice 70° day, lots of sun. Today we might hit 35° with wind and a layer of ice on everything.

Haha. AWESOME SHOOTING!!

Looking forward to upper 50’s this weekend.

Gonna try a hit a couple Spots for Coyotes tomorrow am. Then I’m firing up my pots!! A buddy just bought a S&W 25-5 and never loaded 45 Colts. I have a care package for him put together and want some more H&G 200g swc 45’s for my self!

I coated some Lyman Devastators last night Ford Blue. These where too small. Running about .450... they came out 454-455 sized nicely to .452.

Commonly the mosquitoes come out before all the snow is gone. Just like a bureaucrats, can't wait for there share of blood.
It's been getting into the mid 30's during the day, but starting today the prediction is for snow the next 4 days.
Ben I'm envious now, but in mid summer it might get a bit hot where you are.
Nice shooting by the way, I've always liked the #1's, nice lines.

My Ruger # 1 , 308 Win. has a strong affinity for the long heavy .30 cal. cast bullets.
I don't have any deer here in Alabama that could even slow down this bullet.

Ben of the two styles of bullets from that mold, which gives you better performance? Nice mold.

Not by a very large margin, but the g/c conventional lube version probably takes the blue ribbon.

Brad,

I can only assume that when the base of the bullet gets that " swift kick " that my aluminum .014 " gas check deals with the violence better than the plain base.

With that said, the plain base version will shoot groups similar to what you saw above, the catch is...... it has to be 1,200 - 1,400 fps. Not 1,750 fps.

Very very nice shooting impressive to say the least.. NOW I will probably be the only one here to say this but like the 3-30 I think the 12 twist has lot to do with the two cartridges liking cast bullets
