Ruger American 358 Winchester

Im feeling the urge here...

First off, Iterminally afflicted as a 35 caliber nut...:embarrassed:

My very first hunting rifle was a Browning BLR 358 Winchester. I regretfully and for who knows why, I sold it along the way.

I have various 35 Cal rifles and enjoy all of them. From the 357 Magnum and Maximum to the 358 Norma Magnum.
My Whelen does a good job but its big and heavy. As the Norma Magnum is.

I do not have a 35 Rem bolt. But I do have a 356 Single shot H&R. (I would sell this should I get the American 358) I like single shots, But I prefer a Bolt. I have a Remington 760 that could handle some stiff loads doing more than 75% of what the 358 could. But its a pump.

Aanyhow not looking to justify. There is none but I want it. ;)

I have read thru the couple 358 posts I found. But wondered if anyone has this rifle already?

I have a few Americans and they are very accurate. I have been very impressed with the way the rifle handles. It will be a cast bullet gun and a hunting rifle.

Any and all comments welcome.

mine is the hawkeye.
I like the stock design on the Americans, but they ain't no Mk-2 or Hawkeye.
then again you can buy 2 American's for the price of either one of them, and if I found one in 7.62X39 I'd buy it immediately.. so.

They have a Ruski In the wall!! A 223 as well both used. Never was a attraction. I have the blk out.
I went to my dealer and might be SOL with Grice... He didnt order last week. He Misunder stood. Saw the 399 cost and said he can find better started looking got called away... You probably know the deal here. There is no better and NO OTHER place to buy these new! Its a Grice exclusive and now they are out of stock. :(

But I see a few on GB. Some listed as new so Maybe Grice has or someone bought to flip. Neither matters to me. I just want one! ;)

I dropped off two H&R’s to put on GB. So he has incentive to make some dollars and not just help Me out.

Yesterday while waitin for the Smoker I re sized about 60 Cases to 358. Tonight I will anneal them.
Need to do some Whelens next. I thought I had a pretzel “barrel” of them. But cannot find them. SO, I make more!!

sounds like me.
I spent last winter/spring re-doing the basement and moving a literal ton of my shooting stuff down there.
it is all organized and sorted and stacked and labeled sitting on the shelves all pretty and nice.
now I can't find a damn thing.

from experience last 2 weeks - the 358 Win is a flat deer thumper! Mine is a BLR (sorry to rub it in) and love it. Also have 2x 35 Rems - a Marlin 336 and a Rem Mdl 14. The Marlin has harvested a deer as well and also a thumper. I am a huge 35 cal fan. I also have a Contender in 357 Herrett. Fully intend to take a deer (or more) with that as well. I too am a 35 fan!

Hello Oscar!!

I keep an eye open for a 760 Whelen myself. ;). I have a early 760 in 35 Rem and a nice factory peep 14 also in 35 rem. (Dosent everyonehave a 336 or two :) )

I started this affliction with a early BLR in 358! Everyone thought it huge over kill as those early Silvertips and its stock produced much muzzle rise and critters just fell dead seemingly at its report. It was foolishly sold away.

I had a 14” Herrett & 10” Maxi & 21” Maxi. Life determined my Contendrs went down yhe road. But I was pleased that only they went at that time. I had problems until I HS off rim & shoulder. Hornadys 180 SSP is sorely missed. I have a few boxes squirreled away. ;)
Last night I finished off my brass for the 358. 100 once fired Federal 308’s from my police swat contact. Then about 45 PPU from one of my mechanic’s and a few nickle plated & Norma brass for sentimental reasons. The PPU is completely prepped and primed. The Fed is partially prepped.

Im hoping to cast more 230’s & 270’s tomorrow.
