You have to shoot this one to believe how accurate it is.
I did a total disassembly on my Ruger .22 auto today.
The pistol got ( and needed ) a good cleaning today.
A great .22 Auto Pistol ! !

I've the same Ruger only in Comp, not the hunter. What ammo is yours liking so much?

I've shot a bazillion different brands.
The CCI Blazer certainly does well for the $.

Almost bought the MK IV a few months ago. Was in the LGS and there it was calling my name. Like I need another 22 or something.

What range are you shooting it at?

Rick,

I'm shooting mine at 20 yards

I think the early MK IV's had issues with the safety.
Hopefully they have all that corrected now.
It is no big issue for me to totally disassemble my Mark III.
Think that I'll stay with my Mark III, I can't see a lot of benefit in owning a Mark IV.

Mine is a blued 5 1/2" heavy barrel model. Not sure but I think it is a Mk II. Got it in 88 or 89 when first married. That pistol has taught a bunch of people to shoot.

They are rugged, they are dependable, they offer an honest value for a reasonable price.

And they shoot quite well also. :)

88 or 89? Yep, it's a MKII. You better figure out quick when you were married. Could ask your wife but that's not recommended.

I know the marriage date, just not when I got the pistol.
30 years I have put up with her.....

I'm kind of confused.
are we all sending our Ruger MK sumthin 22's to Ben to get cleaned?
if so,,,, I'm in.
hopefully he leaves the rest of the blue on mine and doesn't clean it that hard.
not so you'd notice any more blue gone from it.

If the bolt remains in the open position, upon firing the last round, its a Mark II. Here's mine.

I can't see a lot of benefit in owning a Mark IV. Ben

Besides the ease of disassembly, the resulting ability to clean the bore from the breech end...............the ambi safety is also more desirable for us, southpaws. However, at the prices their getting now, I'll just stick with my boringly accurate
Mark II........don't shoot it much, anymore. Not because of ammo, just have too many other toys. If I did get the itch, it would be the light weight model.

Recently, Cindy and I re-qualified for our CC licenses and used the Mark II. The instructor mentioned to Cindy, that she wasn't familiar with the gun and was surprised it was so heavy. The reason for using the Ruger was because if you qualify with a auto you can carry either an auto or revolver and the license lasts two years longer. Was told to bring 50 rounds per shooter, and I wasn't enthused about potentially loosing 100 rounds of 9 mm brass.

Ben,
I have an old Mark II target ( one gun I got for a steal!) Only thing is I had to do is rebuild it! It was a mess Had to shorten the barrel by 1/2 inch because of muzzle damage and do a recess crown. I rust blued it afterwards. It too is a shooter! Amazingly it really likes the bulk box of Federals that Walmart used to sell cheap!

Ben,
Very nice pistol, lots of great features. Love those sights!

I have also had excellent results with CCI Blazer .22 LR in all my .22s. The only "ordinary"
.22 ammo that I have found to be consistently better is the OLD Winchester Power Point. But, unfortunately,
they moved the factory about 4 or 5 (or more) years ago and the current PP ammo is no great
shakes, IME, pretty ordinary ammo. I still have a few bricks of the old PP, and use it for testing
guns to see what they will do with "known good" ammo.

Of course, .22s can be very picky about what they will shoot well, although some .22s seem
to do well with anything you give them.

I have a MKIV, but I have owned Ruger std autos since 1968, and figured out how to take them
apart and put them back together properly when I was 16. I have taught many people the
VERY EASY trick to doing this, really can't see why it is such a big deal. to some.

I got the MKIV because it was a great deal, not because it hinges open. I think I have about
8 Ruger .22 autos currently.

I have people bring them to me saying they have tried for 3 days to get them back together and can't. 5 minutes and I can have it back together , ready to shoot.

Like you say, nothing to it really.

I know I have struggled with mine a few times. Then I remember how to do it and it just goes together easily.
