I have my grandfathers Savage 340 chambered in .222. I know there are some 340 shooters on here. I know B Square makes a scope mount for these rifles. Are there any others that are better or would this be okay? Any advice or things to look for to inhance accuracy? Have 80 rounds of factory Remington ammo plus 100 pieces of new Lapua brass.

I'm not sure about the scope mount. Mine came with Lyman reicever sights when I bought it. I'm sure someone else will chime in.

many of the 340 rifles come D&T's for a mount.
and there have been several of them made over the years.
most of them are more of a side mount than a top mount so you have to watch for that.

If you look on the left side of the receiver. There should be 4 holes spaced evenly on the receiver about 3/8 of an inch below the opening for shell extraction. Those are the screws that the mount atatches to the receiver. If those aren't there a GS can drill and tap holes for you. I paid 60$ just for the drilling and tapping.
An alternative mount. I also just got a 325A (pre 340) that isn't drilled and taped for a mount. I am going to mount a weaver base 2" long onto the receiver just in front of the ejection port. And put one of the new micro red dot sights (non magnification) in a scout scope style on the rifle. Pictures will be attached when completed.

I had a two of them, one was a series D in 222 and the other was a series E in 223.
the 222 had a horrible trigger,
the 223 was better, but still not great.
I was told there wasn't much you can do with those triggers.
I was hoping the 222 would be a shooter, so I took the rifles apart and swapped the triggers/sears.
those parts were shaped a bit different, but the holes and mating parts were the same.
After I made the swap to hopefully have a better trigger on the 222,
I noticed the location of the trigger, in regards to the trigger guard, had changed, due to the different shape.
the 223 was fine, but the 222 had little extra room after my finger was in there.
I swapped the parts back and they both got sold at my Auction last year.

Oh, both had predrilled holes in the side of the receiver and had a Weaver brand side mount installed.
NOW, a little info about that weaver side mount, the older side mounts have no clearance for a modern scope that isn't a straight tube(like an old Weaver scope), meaning the scope body is enlarged at the adjustment knobs. But the mount is easily machined to make clearance.

A 340 in 222 was my first center fire rifle after I got out of the Corps. It was very accurate for me at the time. I loaded it with 24 gr BL-C2, under a 50-55 gr Hor soft point on 310 tool. It accounted for a few western N.Y. chucks, and a few feral cats that summer, before I enlisted in the AF. It accounted for a nice black tail in Washington state the following season. Money was tight, and had to sell it. Was a great little rifle. I think I had a Weaver K2.5 on it with Weaver mounts.

Mine is amazing. It came with a box of Hornady Frontier, Remington and Winchester factory 50 gr sp and I bought 2 boxes of FC blue box . All 4 loads shot less than 1.5 inches outside to outside and within 3" of the cheap no name 3-9 x 25 with the fake front bell .
The Weaver mount on mine will accommodate a x32 without issue.

A more recently aquired 325C in 30-30 needed bedding and shoots well enough that Ms killed a hog day before yesterday with it .
It shot 4" groups with everything and had I chip knocked out of the inside of the stock where the recoil lug was inleted and would jam the magazine. Both magazines all but drop free now it shot an inch with vintage 150 gr Winchester silver tips and with 19.0 gr of 4198 under a Lee 312-155 a 3 shot over lapping group.

Net take away about the 325/340 Savage? Buy it ,shoot it, spend $50 to bed it as needed , and locate a side mount . I just aquired a new mount but I have no idea what it fits . I'll have to look at it in the morning you might have found an amazing deal.
