Scope Value

My 14 month old .223 Ruger American Rifle came with a 3-9X40 Vortex Crossfire II scope. About a month ago I replaced it with a 4-12X40 Bushnell. My son-in-law asked how much I want for it. A search of the usual on-line sellers turns up $149 as the low price. I admit to being used scope price ignorant.

The scope is in as-new condition, and maybe 150 rounds have through the rifle.

What would be a fair price to tell him?

Thanks,
Michael

Fair market value makes it $125 .
140 is fair no tax .
Friends , family , how much they've irritated you lately , do you have another home for it , birthday , anniversary , done some heavy lifting lately , do you even like the kid ..... Sarcasm where appropriate , plain humor elsewhere , brings it to a $90 down on your replacement or a decent gift or attaboy .

I’d say it’s worth $125 shipped. Cause that’s how much I’d give you for it right now, if he don’t want it. ;)

100$ is a nice number. But like Fever Id most likely just make a gift of it if I didn't need it. That coming from a guy with at least 6-8 scopes in a cabinet.

I keep these scopes that come on a rifle to put on rifles that I am selling. Much easier to sell and I add the lower website search market value to the rifle for the scope, figuring rings at and mounts at $20.00 additional.

If friends or in the family, I ask what they have in trade first. Keeps the issue of dollars down and sometimes you get useful stuff.

In the past, I've given my SIL some guns. If he wanted a $100-150 scope I had no use for, I'd just give it to him.
With that said, we all have our own ways of dealing with family, so that's gonna be what it is.
What's the scope worth?
I'd probably put in on my gunshow table for $125.

Thanks for your all your input.

I've a proposition to present to him that he very well may find to his advantage. The 10/22 has a scope a step down from the Vortex, but with the same type of reticle. I'll give him that one, and put the Vortex on the 10/22.

Sorry, Joshua.

Ah shucks!

I’ll be alright. I just need to get something with more light gathering than my 1970’s Tasco, before hunting season starts.

Giggle! I’m gonna put a three hundred dollar scope on top of my $75.00 (1989 value) rifle. Look at me shining a turd!

the oldest girls 7.7 Jap rifle I home bubba'd has a 300 dollar bushnell on it.
now it has a nice scope and a nice stock, the rest of the rifle looks like it was drug out of a cave in the south east/west whatever pacific and wiped down with 100 grit sandpaper.

Does it shoot?

it does shoot pretty well.
the trigger needs a little more help, but it is a solid 200 yd. deer rifle, and it shoots cast bullets about the same as jacketed.
plus she has eyes on my Ruger tang safety in 250 Ackley.
for the amount of shooting and hunting she does that pretty well covers all her needs.
