Shooters World Match Rifle.

I have been using IMR4895 and IMR 4064 in my M1 rifle for both and jacketed and cast loads.
I see that Shooters World has a Garand load listed for Match Rifle powder.
I have tried contacting them twice with no response asking if it can safely be reduced for cast loads.
I would like to try this powder but I don`t know if you can safely reduce the charges for cast loads like 4895 and 4064.
Anyone have experience with this powder?

I don't know about the powder but airc the company was some bothersome to deal with before.

anyhow I believe shooters world powder is Lovex brand, re-packaged, which Is neither here nor there when it comes to reductions.
what does matter is the powder itself.
does it have a heavy burn deterrent coating?
is it a high density type powder?
those are the kinds of things that determine it's suitability for reducing, or whether it responds to a filler favorably.

IMO if it is a medium speed burn rate powder, made in small stick [or flake] shapes, doesn't have a heavy shiny grey coating, or a bunch of holes drilled every which direction through the sticks, your good to go.

So, I’m cheap! And twenty dollar rifle powder is appealing to me.

Just the other day I was looking at Shooters World/Lovex Powders. Here is what I found.

Match Rifle and D073-6 are the same powder. They are double based ball powders. Lovex powder numbers all start with an “S” or a “D”, single/double.

Most of what I have read online discourages reducing ball powders.

Now, Shooters World Precision is a single based stick powder that is similar to Varget. It is also two dollars more a pound.

Here is an in-depth article I read a few days ago comparing the Precision/S062 and Varget.

I don’t own a Garand. I do however reload 30-06, and from what I have read, with heavy cast bullets Varget can give good results in a reduced load. I have read also that a Lyman 311299 over Varget will cycle a Garand. The Precision/S062 could fill this same role as long as the coatings on the powder didn’t interfere.

OK, I blew it.
The thread title should have read Shooters World Precision Rifle.
I am aware that reducing loads with ball powders is not recommended.
For some reason, i get these 2 powders confused.

Tomme boy, Who will I be contacting with the email address that you are showing.
Do they work for shooters World.
No I have not used that address.

some ball powders will work pretty good reduced down.
CFE-223 has done well reduced below starting jacketed loads, and AA-2230 also is fine with it.
I think they might even do better than the medium burn stick type powders which seem to really need some Dacron to do their best work.

I'd probably get a pound of that precision rifle and give it a go if I seen it locally.

So, Having read Fivers comment above, I started looking around for more info on reducing ball powders. I came across a thread that called bull on all the dire warnings against reducing ball powders below starting loads. He pointed out that 8x57mm is often shown with very light loads in American manuals with ball powders, compared to a European data.

This led me back to the Lovex manual to look at 8mm. Which led me back to single base stick powder Precision/S062.

Lovex/Explosia shows no info for ball powders in 8x57mm IR, IS, or IRS. They do however show info for most of their single base stick powders. All three of these cartridges have the same internal volume, the IR is the older .318” rimmed version. This older rimmed version cannot be loaded very hot because of the older break actions that it was chambered in. Lovex shows reduced loads in this caliber with SW Precision/S062 when compared to the rimmless version of 8x57mm that most of us here in America are familiar with.

So, yes I think that Precision can be downloaded. In the rimmed IR they show it 6.9 grains below the starting load for the rimless IS.

Thank you very much Tomme boy.
I will either call or email him soon.
I will let all know what he says.
BTW, at this point I am not going to download any ball powder loads for my pristine M1Garand until I get more info on this.
